Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away on August 18th, 2017 surrounded by family.
Haven was born December 22, 1933 in Logan, Utah to Eldred Clifford and Ethel Sorensen Bergeson. He was a 1952 Granite High School graduate and served a mission in the West Central States Mission from 1954 to 1956. Haven married Carol Ann Stevenson on June 4, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated with a PhD in Physics from the University of Utah in 1962.
Haven and Carol Ann are the parents of eight children: Scott, Carrie (Dean) Jolley, Marianne (Kenyon) Leavitt, Rosalie (David) Petersen, Brenda (Clark) Petersen, Kevin, Jeremy (Marian Majors), and Peter (Jaime Jiles). They are blessed with thirty grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and counting. He is a brother to Paul (Marie) Bergeson and Sharon (Brad) Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin Trent Bergeson.
Haven was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His posterity has fond memories of playing skip stoop while he played"Tea For Two"on the piano, making his grandchildren "musical instruments" on their bellies or arms to tickle, and traveling to worldwide physics conferences with his beloved CA and children. He enjoyed being with family on many water and snow ski adventures, road-trips, and family dinners.
Many callings were filled faithfully by Haven such as bishop, gospel doctrine teacher, scout leader, and Stake Patriarch. For many years, he gave memorable Priesthood Previews where he used principles from science and religion to teach young men to look beyond themselves, to continue learning, and to live a life of service for others. He exemplified his article "The Faith that Endures" (The Instructor, December 1969).
Dr. Bergeson was a professor and chairman of the University of Utah Physics Dept. where he instituted the Faraday Lectures. He was also President of Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters, winner of the Willard Gardner Prize, member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, and researcher with General Electric Co. Missiles and Space Vehicles Dept. in King of Prussia, PA. He had numerous publications in scientific journals and presented at international scientific conferences. With Dr. Jack W. Keuffel, he set up an apparatus in the Silver King mine in Park City, Utah to study neutrinos. They were instrumental in developing the University of Utah Cosmic Ray Research Project.

Family and friends may callFridayevening from6-8 pmat Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, andSaturdayfrom9:30-10:45 amat the ward building. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
