Patricia Erlene Cima Isaacs

1930 ~ 2018

Dr. Patricia Cima Isaacs was born in Helper, Utah on July 1st, 1930. Pat was the first daughter and 2nd child of Ernest A. and Birdie L. Cima. She attended school in Helper form the 1st to the 10th grade and her next 2 years in Price, Utah. She graduated from Carbon High School, Class of 1948. She went into nursing on a scholarship provided by the United Mine Works of America and graduated from St. Mark\s School of nursing in 1952. She furthered her education, earning a Bachelor\s degree in Nursing at the University of Utah and graduated Magnum Cum Laude and was initiated and became a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Pat also received her Masters of Science degree as a pediatric nurse practitioner and a child nurse specialist from the University of Utah. She furthered her nursing education and career by receiving a Doctorate of Education in Health Science at Brigham Young University. She was Valedictorian of Health Science at the time of her graduation.

Pat\s nursing career started at the children\s ward at St. Mark\s Hospital as Assistant Head Nurse, then for Dr. O.L. Ross (Pediatrician} as his nurse practitioner until the time of his death. She was then employed by the University of Utah Medical Center and worked as a team leader on the pediatric ward. In 1968 she was asked to assist in the development of the Intermountain Newborn Intensive Care Center under the direction of Dr. August Larry Jung.

She was the first head nurse and also initiated the outreach program for infants leaving the unit and following them in their homes. In July 1997, she left the NBICU and went to Brigham Young University developing under Dr. Maxine Cope, the master\s degree program in child nursing and pediatric nurse practitioner. While at BYU, she did research on infants and children not only state side but in Israel. She presented the findings from her research in Europe, South America, Australia, Korea, Taiwan and the United States.

Pat was a member of Phi Kapa Phi, Iota. Iota, chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Society for Nursing and received an award in excellence in nursing practice. She was a member of numerous research societies, such as Sigma Xi research society. She was listed in Who\s Who in nursing society. She received the Honor Alumni award from the College of Nursing and Brigham Young University. A Special Olympic award was given from Hartvigsen School for all her countless hours spent with children in the Special Olympic programs for more than 10 years. Pat had numerous publications including a text of child nursing. She was also a consultant for J.B. Lippincott and Appleton Century and Croft for Publications of Pediatric Nursing. She remained at BYU College of Nursing until the time of her retirement, July 1995.

Pat was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and held many different positions, Sunday school, nursery, primary, and relief society teacher. She was also an assistant to the Ward Clerk and a temple worker. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Wasatch Camp and was their Captain and Vice Captain for more than 14 years. She then took over the position of Secretary and Treasurer. She dearly loves the daughters in her camp, she has been a member for over 20 years.

Playing Bridge was one of her great enjoyments with her wonderful friends, both in their homes, senior citizen centers and different restaurants. Pat was an avid outdoors person who loved to camp and fish (taught many of her friends how to fish). She loved pheasant hunting with her father and enjoyed taking her children out camping and fishing. She loved swimming, golfing, bowling and skiing at Alta. Pat had a great delight for life, a brilliant mind, never ending strength, generosity and lots of determination. Her main goal in life was the love and compassion that she gave to others. She was always willing to give and to help those in need. She loved life and most of all, her children, grandchildren and great grandson who were her whole reason for living. She loved her faithful friend and companion \"Rusty\": Her golden retriever now deceased and all of her previous dogs and her cat, Tiger Bob.

Pat is survived by her children, Timothy, Tamara Vitela (Louis), both from Salt Lake City, Utah. Teri Charlesworth (Shane), Syracuse, Utah. She has 6 grandchildren. Sarah, Patrick, Mikaela, Sydnee, Summerlin and Alejandra (Ali). She has one great grandson, Ace Michael. She is survived by 2 sisters, Geraldine (Geri) Turnbull, Jacqueline (Jill) Peterson and one brother Jack Cima. Preceded in death by her parents, Brothers James (Jim), Ernie, and daughter in law Valerie.

Funeral services will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary on Monday, August 27th, 2018 at 11:00 am with a visitation prior to Monday services from 10-10:45 am. Sunday, August 26, 2018 visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm also at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, UT (In lieu of flowers, Pat wishes donations be made in her name to Shriners Hospital for all the care given to her two grandchildren or to anycharity of their choice.)
