Aenona "Nonie" Mayhew Crocker

Aenona Mayhew Crocker “Nonie”, age 94 peacefully passed away surrounded by family on September 4, 2021 in her home in Salt Lake City. Nonie was born August 12, 1927 as daughter of Shelby and Elma Mayhew, in Talmage Utah. Nonie was sealed to the love of her life, Lamar Emory Crocker, on June 22, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. Nonie was the constant partner and companion to her beloved husband, Crock, and together they created a marriage of great joy. She was devoted to her three children, Gary, Kevin and Tamra. She truly cherished her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Nonie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving and growing in a wide range of assignments including years of service as Primary President, Young Women’s President, and serving in Relief Society Presidencies. The highlight of this service was working in a “Project Temple” program where many couples were sealed to their families. Nonie and Crock enjoyed serving as temple workers in the Salt Lake temple which service was one of the greatest blessings in their later lives.

Nonie and Crock shared an abiding passion and love for Lake Powell for almost 60 years and spent much of their lives introducing this cherished experience to their children, grandchildren, and literally dozens of lifelong friends. Nonie was a skilled slalom water skier, as well as a gifted racquetball and tennis player.

While deeply committed to raising her children, Nonie’s natural charisma and athletic skill led her to top sales management positions in Salt Lake’s largest spa and racquetball club, the Fountain of Youth. She also started the valley’s first women’s aerobic club, The Total Woman. Literally thousands played racquetball or learned aerobics with Nonie while she advanced to the role of Sr. Vice President in the combined organizations. An executive position was very unusual for a woman in the 1970s and 1980s. Known for her elegance, beauty and kindness, Nonie also worked as a model for several local clothing companies and did so with grace and a lack of self-promotion. She had an extraordinary work ethic acquired through her rough farm life in the Uinta Basin without electricity or modern utilities. In the basin, she acquired a love of music and dance, and throughout her life she played ragtime music on several instruments by ear and danced endlessly with Crock. For years, Nonie and Crock taught dancing lessons in their local LDS stakes.

Nonie is survived by sons Gary (Ann) and Kevin (Kris), son-in-law Adrian Pulfer (Tamra), as well as her three sisters Bernice Baich, Donna Clayburn, and Elaine Horrocks. She has 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Crock, cherished daughter Tamra and her parents.

A viewing will be held Friday evening on September 10, 2021 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Wasatch Hills LDS ward chapel 2255 South Wasatch Drive in Salt Lake City, with a viewing prior to the service at 11:30 a.m. The interment will be at Mountain View Memorial estates.
