Albert Joseph Woodmansee, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, devotion—and just the right amount of tomfoolery to keep everyone on their toes.
Born on August 30, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Albert grew into a man who could fix just about anything, grow nearly everything, and tease absolutely everyone. He met the love of his life, Gladys M. Badgett, and married her on August 17, 1955 in the Salt Lake temple for time and all eternity. Not long after, he entered military service, beginning a life defined by dedication to both country and community. As he liked to say—only half joking—he “fought with one hand and cooked with the other,” a claim no one ever felt the need to challenge.
Albert was a man of steady hands and a generous heart. Whether woodworking in his shop, casting a line into a quiet lake, or tending his garden, he found joy in simple, meaningful work. His garden, in particular, became something of a neighborhood institution. Many benefited from his abundant harvests, and few escaped a friendly (and sometimes competitive) conversation about which tomatoes they were planting that year. If you walked away from Albert with a bag of vegetables, you could be sure you also left with a smile—and possibly the lingering suspicion you’d just been the subject of one of his gentle jokes.
Service was woven into every part of Albert’s life. He gave his time and leadership to numerous organizations, including the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts of America—where he earned both the Silver Beaver and Silver Buffalo awards—and his church community. He served as an Honorary Colonel for the South Salt Lake Police Department and was a member of the Hercules Credit Union Board. If something needed fixing, especially electrical, Albert was often the first to show up—and the last to leave, usually with a clever remark along the way.
Albert’s greatest joy, however, was his family.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph Quinn, Adrian Lavon (Lorianne), Elliott Shawn, Malcolm Lorne (Jennifer), and Dirk Sebastian (Leslie), as well as his younger brother, Duane. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever hear his signature calls and unforgettable phrases echoing in their memories—equal parts wisdom and well-timed humor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys; his daughter, Samantha; his parents; and his siblings, Gerald, Jeanette, Joyce, and Shirley.
A viewing will be held in his honor on Monday March 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Haven LDS Church building located at 2280 South 300 East, South Salt Lake City, Utah. An additional viewing will take place Tuesday, March 31, from 9:30 to 10:45 AM, with funeral services to follow from 11:00 to noon.
Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
Albert will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and his uncanny ability to make people laugh—often when they least expected it. He lived a life of purpose, kindness, and enduring love, and he leaves behind not only a legacy of service, but a family and community who will miss his teasing almost as much as they miss him.
