Alfred Clinton Carter, 79, of South Jordan, UT died peacefully in his home February 21, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He was born June 8,1944 in Provo, UT to the late Alfred and Fern Carter. He was the third of five children and remained close to them during their lifespans.

Alfred attended schools in Utah, Michigan, and Hawaii but was most proud to have graduated from BYU in French and Mathematics and remained a loyal BYU fan his entire life.

Alfred was a dedicated lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served an honorable mission in the Franco Belgium mission. Some of his favorite callings were ward mission leader, Bishop, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He loved to teach the gospel and even found ways to teach in the last few days of his life.

Alfred was lucky to meet and marry 2 loves of his life. He married RuthAnn Ricks on April 2, 1968 and after her passing, was blessed to find love again with Michele Lyn Meador. They were married on June 20,1992. He was definitely rich in love as due to these two unions he was called Dad and Grandpa by 13 children, their spouses, 55 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he is survived by his wife Michele and his sister Mary Ann (Doug) Johnson.

Alfred had a gift for teaching and was proud to say he taught mathematics for 50 years before retiring. He loved the students and communities of McFarland, CA and Herriman, UT where he taught. Alfred also taught and loved teaching Gospel Doctrine for many years.

Alfred had many hobbies and interests throughout his life, but his favorites were being a BYU sports fan for football and basketball, playing golf, coaching various sports (especially teams his children were on), studying the gospel, running, swimming, sharing jokes and card tricks, having a successful tax business, serving on the school board and providing service in his communities.

Alfred will be missed by many.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Melinda and Arturo (Alfred’s in-home healthcare providers with Inspiration Home Health and Hospice.) Thanks for all you did in caring for our husband and father.

Funeral services under the direction of Larkin Mortuary – Riverton will be held at 10AM on Tuesday February 27,2024 at the Garden Park 7th Ward Chapel, 4842 West Vermillion Drive in South Jordan, Utah. He will be laid to rest at the Mapleton Cemetery in Mapleton, UT.

Funeral services will be streamed via Zoom for those wishing to attend virtually. To watch the previously held services, please click the “Watch Services” link above.

My sincerest condolences to Shelly and her family. Words can’t express how much I appreciated Al while serving with him in the Bishopric in Herriman several years ago. I always appreciated his counsel and wisdom that he shared with me as a young and inexperienced Bishop. Al was the gold standard when it came to how you sustain your priesthood leaders. That helped me to be able to fulfill my calling and have the confidence in the Lord that I so desperately needed at that time. I’ll never forget that and am grateful I got to know Al and to be able to learn the gospel of Jesus Christ from him in its purest form. My love to him and his family

Al and Michele were our next door neighbors in Delano, Ca. Both of them were very kind and helpful to us. Our son, Michael, and their son, McKay, were best buddies until they moved to Bakersfield. We have great memories of the entire Carter family. Our heartfelt condolences to the family, especially Michele.
