Alvin “Bud” Cardall Fox was joyfully reunited with his beloved wife Esther on October 16, 2024. After suffering a stroke on August 10, his health quickly declined. Although Bud was fiercely independent, his declining health required that he leave his home and live in an assisted living facility, and yet, he still found the will to use his quick wit to tease the staff at Meadow Peak and joke with the family and friends who visited him.

Bud was born on March 1, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mabel Bertha Cardall and Alvin Francis Fox. He grew up in Bountiful where his father owned Fox Electrics, and as he helped his dad in their shop, his gift for working with and his love for electronics was born.

In his teens, he met Esther Edlund when they both roller skated at the Norman Dee Skating Rink. After he served in the Navy for four years, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Aprill 11, 1958.

He worked for over forty years with the Department of the Navy as an electronic technician and engineer. His career took them to live in Charleston, South Carolina, Redwood City, California, and eventually to Chula Vista, California, where they lived in their home on Shasta Street for almost thirty years. When he retired in 1995, they returned to Utah to live among family.

Bud and Esther loved camping, fishing, and boating. Red Fish Lake in Idaho was one of their favorite spots. While living in Chula Vista, they spent many hours in their boat on the ocean. Bud was a talented painter, working with watercolors and oils. Their home was decorated with many of his artworks. Even after retirement, Bud continued to tinker with electronics, especially cameras, computers, and drones. In his late 80s, he bought an electric scooter to drive the pathways along the Provo River. Bud was a movie buff and a Star Trek fan. He leaves behind a vast library of CD-ROMs that he made through the years of his favorite movies and episodes.

For many years, Bud and Esther served as ordinance workers in the Los Angeles, San Diego, and Jordan River Temples. They both had a passion for family history work and dedicated many hours serving as family history consultants helping many search for and find their ancestors.

After the passing of his dear wife, Bud was a frequent customer at Chuck-A-Rama where he made many friends and was a favorite customer of Marla, who served him with kindness and great care.

Bud is survived by his sister Edna, sister-in-law Aleen, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister Virginia.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10-11:30 at the LDS Church located at 1945 West 9000 South. Following the viewing, a graveside service will be held at Murray City Cemetery.
