Ann Johnson Perkins, born October 11, 1947, in Flushing Meadows, Queens, NY, died peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 22, 2025, surrounded by loving family.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence Axel Johnson and Esther Helene Johnson, and husband James B. Perkins.
She is survived by her three children, Kristie (Howard), Daniel (Erin), Lori (Andrew); grandkids: Conner, William, Nicholas, Eric, Corbin, Hailey, Anna, Alaina, Bonham and Rachel.
A true east coast girl, Ann grew up spending idyllic summer days at Sound Beach with her cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, parents and twin brother. She loved to tell stories of riding the subway into Manhattan with her family for good food and entertainment. After graduating from high school, she attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She didn’t really love Zoology class, nor dissecting animals, but really loved her cute lab partner! A year later, she and her sweetheart, Jim, were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on September 13, 1966. She worked to help Jim through school and then went on to rear three kids in the Cottonwood Heights area of Salt Lake. Ann was always involved in every aspect of her children’s education -- in the classroom and at home. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ann served in many stake and ward callings: den mother, primary, young women’s and relief society teacher. Ann also knew the importance of family history work and was always doing genealogy for her own family or for friends. Her children learned through her example the importance of hard work and selfless service. She was an amazing cook and baker and her recipes are on heavy rotation still today! When we found delicious baked goods on the kitchen counter, we were often saddened to find out that they were intended for the neighbors!
In her later years, she was fortunate enough to travel with her husband to the British Isles, New York, Canada, Mexico and many other wonderful places. Her grandchildren knew she was the one who would help you finish the biggest, most difficult puzzle. An avid reader, she was always enjoying a good book or reading to her grandchildren. Grandma was always willing to play ALL the board games, even eternal rounds of Monopoly. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend – Ann's loving influence and guidance will be greatly missed. We know she was greeted in heaven by her loving husband, parents and grandparents. We will miss you and look forward to that day of sweet reunion.
The family wishes to express special appreciation to the memory care staff of The Auberge at Aspen Park for all the loving care they have provided for Ann.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 28, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road in Sandy, with a graveside service to follow. The graveside will be livestreamed via Zoom and can be accessed by clicking the "Watch Services" button above.
To my nieces and nephew, I am deeply sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Ann was always a joy to be around when I visited my brother. I would often spend more time with her than with Jim. I'm not a good cook and enjoyed her cooking and tried to learn from Ann. I'm so deeply grateful for her love and kindness throughout the years to me! Unfortunately I won't be able to attend Ann's service but know I will be thinking of all of you. Love Aunt Tami Smith
