Antonio Matias, 74, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on February 13, 2026. Antonio Matias was born on December 4th, 1951, in San Pedro Soloma, Huehuetenango, Guatemala to Maria Manuel Tomas and Antonio Segundo.. Antonio was part of the police force in Guatemala for part of his life then later he immigrated to the United States and found his home in Utah. Antonio worked at Sugar House Awning for 37 years, making awnings, boat covers, and canvas products. He was incredibly dedicated to his work and took great pride in what he made each time. Antonio was incredibly loved by his co-workers and his work family. He loved going to their summer BBQ parties and holiday parties.
Antonio loved exercising, going on walks and stretching, cooking, listening to Marimba, spending time with his family and friends, going to church, and traveling. Antonio is survived by his wife, Paulina Matias. His children are Maria Matias, Victor Matias, and Glenda Matias. His grandchildren are Christian, Jaylene, Abigail, Oscar, Dylan, Nathan, Giselle, and Alan. Great-grandchild, Luca. His sisters are Maria, Margarita, Martha, and Teresa. His in-laws are Carlos, Juan Carlos, Guillermo, and Arlen. Antonio was a son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Antonio was the patriarch of our family and a friend to many. Antonio was the true definition of the American dream of coming to find a better home for himself and his family. Antonio will be remembered for his heart of gold; truly, he never hesitated in helping anyone out. Antonio always welcomed anyone into his home with open arms. Antonio preached unity and love in the family and to help one another. He encouraged everyone to be strong and be together during difficult times. Antonio was a jokester who loved to joke around, and anyone who experienced and understood his sense of humor should consider themselves lucky. Antonio was a serious man, but behind that serious demeanor, he was a true gem of a human being. There are not enough words to express how much we will miss him but he lives on in each life he has touched.
The Matias family extends their warmest and deepest gratitude to everyone who has shared their condolences and prayers. Friends and family are welcome to accompany the Matias Family to his vigil on February 19th at Larkins Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, UT, 84092, from 5-8 pm. His mass will be held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church on February 20th at 11:00 am and his burial will be held at Larkins Sunset Gardens afterwards. Antonio era hijo, hermano, esposo, tio, padre, abuelo y amigo, muy querido.
Antonio era el patriarca de nuestra familia y amigo de muchos. Antonio era la verdadera definición del sueño americano de venir a buscar un hogar mejor para él y su familia. Antonio será recordado por su corazón de oro; realmente, nunca dudaba en ayudar a nadie. Antonio siempre recibía a cualquiera en su casa con los brazos abiertos. Antonio predicaba la unidad y el amor en la familia y ayudarse unos a otros. Animaba a todos a ser fuertes y permanecer juntos en los momentos difíciles.
