Arthur Herworth Hardy was born April 14, 1929, to Lyle and Alma Troell Hardy in Pleasanton, Texas, the second of six children. He passed away on December 3, 2021, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family at the age of 92. When he was ten, he and some friends went swimming in the Atascosa River and he contracted Typhoid Fever. He was in a coma for six weeks at home with no medicine in those days; only his mother’s constant care. His father owned a gas station, but when the government built a new highway, it bypassed his father’s station. So, the family moved to Sacramento, California, where his father had obtained work.
Art graduated from Sacramento High School in 1946, and that summer joined the U.S. Navy. A year earlier he had met Ross Crosby when they were working for the American Can Company, and Ross had introduced Art to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When Art left for the Navy, Ross gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon, and while Art was recuperating from an appendicitis operation in the naval hospital, he read it. He went home to Sacramento on leave and was baptized by his friend Ross. That year, 1947, Church membership reached one million, and Art liked to think he was the one-millionth member!
Art served from 1950 to 1952 in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. He was in his senior year at Brigham Young University when he met Jeannine Chamberlin from Boise, Idaho. He always celebrated the day of their first date, November 11. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 28, 1955.
Art graduated in Business from BYU and later received his Master’s in Educational Psychology from the University of Utah. He worked as a rehabilitation counselor for the State of Utah and also for Nevada. He always had a church calling and served as a Jordan River Temple worker for nine years, which he loved.
Art and Jeannine settled in Utah, the last 53 years in their home in Sandy. They had ten wonderful children. Art enjoyed the hikes and camps with his boys and summiting the tallest peaks in nine states- sometimes only making it part-way! He loved reading, enjoyed the Wall Street Journal, BYU Football, gardening, being with his family, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife Jeannine of 66 Years; children Karlin (Mark) Coombs, James (Carmen) Hardy, Kristin (Jorge) Mena, Mark (Kerry) Hardy, Carol Roth, Scott (Kelly) Hardy, Kim (Brian) Robins, Todd (Melissa) Hardy, Matthew (Sherry) Hardy, Chris (Holly) Hardy; 48 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; brother Roy Hardy, sisters Naomi (Leonard deceased) Schmidt, Vida (Gordon) Adelman all of Sacramento, and sister Pauline Hardy of San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Much appreciation is extended to his caretakers Hailee, Jaimie, Gurpreet, Janni, and daughters Carol and Kim, who tenderly cared for their Dad through his last days, and to caring neighbors, Ward members, family, friends.

My condolences to the family that embraced my sister Barbara Tubbs as one of their own. Barbara and Carol were the best of friends for such a long time. My heart goes out to Carol and the family while you are in the grieving state of mind, Even though we mourn for our lose, we also rejoice for the plan of Salvation that is extended to all of us,. ♥️

I had the great honor of working with Art as fellow vocational rehabilitation counselors in the 1980's. He was an inspirational role model and an all-around pleasure to work with. I took over his caseload when he retired, and was humbled at his great case management and achievements in restoring disabled clients to gainful employment and fulfilled lives. The way he sincerely lived the Gospel was also uplifting. I will always appreciate him.
