Listen to Obituary
Our dearest mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on April 22, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on November 9, 1934 in Park City, Utah to Harold Addison Stonebraker and Bertha Louisa Hunt Stonebraker.
Barbara lived with her parents and her younger brother, Hal in Park City, Utah until the age of 10. Her father worked in the silver mines until their closure and then moved the family to Arsenal Villa in Roy, Utah, where they found work at the Naval Supply Depot. When Barbara was 12 years old, her beloved father, Harold, died. Her mother, Bertha, went to work in Clearfield, UT as a mail carrier to support her family and met a man who had recently lost his wife, Giles Frampton. Giles had 3 young children of his own. Giles and Bertha married, creating a new family for Barbara that included her brother Hal, her step-siblings, Dale, Bertis and Marjorie Frampton. They then welcomed a sixth child, Terry, to complete their blended family.
In 1960, Barbara met the love of her life, Donald Andrew Godfrey, who was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. The couple was married on June 25, 1960 and lived happily together for over 60 years, raising 6 children, Tom, Geri, Cindy, Don Jr., Mark and Mike. The two lifetime achievements that Barbara was most proud of was raising their family and creating their family business, B&D Glass, which began as a solo enterprise that she and Don started in their basement and built into the thriving company that their sons and grandchildren continue to run today.
Barbara was a creative and talented artist and crafter. She loved to quilt and sew. She loved to paint. She made beautifully painted porcelain dolls that she fired in her own kiln. She was a glass artist, who made stainless glass windows and lamps. She developed a skill in etching glass, working professionally with some of the local businesses. She made beautiful scrapbooks for her family.
Barbara was fun to be around. She was easy to talk to and laugh with. She enjoyed being with people and had a good sense of humor. She was always supportive and non-judgmental. She nurtured many close friendships over the years and loved to host parties!
She loved plants and nature and loved her garden. She always said yes to any ideas or adventures that we or our father would dream up. She loved to camp and fish and loved being around the water. After she and my father retired, they spent 13 years traveling in the winter to Yuma, AZ with their friends where they played golf and enjoyed happy hour!
Above all, she loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother! As her kids were leaving home, she and Don decided that they had more love and nurturing to share and for 9 years they were foster parents, providing a home for kids that were having difficulty in their own homes.
After her husband Don passed away she moved into Copper Creek Senior Living. She made many wonderful friends there and we were very grateful to the loving and caring staff that kept her safe and very, very busy!
Barbara is survived by her children, Tom (Alice) Godfrey, Geri (Bruce) Etringer, Cindy Steele, Don Jr. (Valerie) Godfrey, Mark (Tammy) Godfrey and Mike (Kim) Godfrey; 17 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren; Siblings, Marjorie Frampton Smith, Terry (Pat) Frampton.
She is preceded in death by her dear husband, Donald Godfrey; her parents, Harold Stonebraker, Giles and Bertha Frampton; Brother-in-law Ron Smith; Step-Brothers, Dale Frampton and Bertis Frampton, beloved brother, Hal and his wife Colleen; Son-in law, Kevin Steele.
The family would like to thank the staff at Copper Creek Senior Living, especially Aisha, Lettie, Alex, and Briann. We’d also like to thank the nurses and aides at Ovation Hospice, Shelley, Rachel and Natalie and Jennifer Griswold, APRN. Your love, caring and support meant so much.
