On October 23, 1950 in Los Angeles, California, Beverly Rae Green Sellars was born to forever loving parents, Ralph Milton Green and Frances Mae Rogers Green. She was their first child and was happily welcomed by her parents and two sets of grandparents.
Bev’s father was a police officer for the city of Los Angeles, and her mother had just started a new career as a mother and homemaker. The family grew, four more daughters and one son, Bev was a great help to her parents and siblings. They were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the family was raised in the faith. Bev was baptized a member of the Church at eight years old. The Green family moved to San Gabriel, California, where Beverly spent most of her childhood. She attended McKinley Elementary School and then graduated from San Gabriel High School. Vacations were spent in Fillmore, Utah, where she developed a close relationship with her Grandma and Grandpa Rogers. The family lived close to her Green grandparents and she was close with them also. Bev was the star of the family and everyone adored her.
After High School graduation Bev attended and graduated from Ricks College in Idaho and then finished her education at BYU Provo. She obtained a teaching degree, but went to work in the BYU Library. She contributed to starting and organizing the new Women’s Archives there, and then later moved on to the Orem City Library. Bev was a great friend to everyone she knew and was always there for others. She had a happy life in Utah, but lovingly returned home to be with her family and share in the joy of the new babies in the family. They were so happy to have her back with them. She obtained a position in the Rowland School District Office in Rowland Heights, California. Her brother had married a beautiful girl named Holly Smith. At the time they had one son and she was expecting another baby, they were in a car accident, hit by a drunk driver and Holly was seriously injured, losing the use of her legs. It was a devasting time for all the family. Bev quit her job and provided love and support and hard work, all that she could do to help and take care of the family. It was an unmatched example of love and service.
Shortly after this time, Bev met and married her life-long love, Robert Sellars. They set out together to start a family with Robert’s son, Jeremiah Sellars, from a previous marriage in tow. Beverly always dreamed of having children, but was
never able to have children of her own. This was a very painful and difficult challenge for her. However, they both loved children and soon found ways to surround themselves with nephews and nieces, especially Stephen and Holly’s children, Brandon, Trenton, Savannah and Madison. Bev later took a job with Valley View High School, a continuation high school which helped unwed mothers and other students who were struggling with problems from their backgrounds. She loved these kids and taught them of respect and love. She spoke fondly of this job as she was always able to reach out to those who were more challenged, and lifted them up.
Bev had health challenges, mostly related to severe rheumatoid arthritis. Because of this illness she had to retire. Robert also had to retire after knee surgery. In 2012 they moved to South Jordan, Utah. Bev loved quilting, but it was getting harder for her to do. They both loved having guests in their beautiful home and frequently did, especially family. As her health continued to fail, everything became more difficult for her. Her husband was a loving and good caregiver, but several recent falls and traumatic injuries were just more than she could bear. She slipped away peacefully at 1:30 am May 23, 2024.
Beverly is survived by her husband Robert Sellars, siblings Nancy Armstrong Cook (Gene), Susan Pincock (Marc), Stephen Green (Holly), Hillary Nelson (Mike), Jennifer Listello Heaps and her dearest lifelong friend, Marilyn McKeon (Tom). She will be loved and remembered forever by her many nieces and nephews, related or not, she was their Aunt Bev. She was a precious gift in all our lives and is already dearly missed. We love you, Bev!
