Brent Mac Taylor was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on April 4, 1949, and passed away peacefully on the morning of January 28, 2022, in his home in Draper, Utah, while holding his beloved wife’s hand, at the age of 72.

Brent grew up in Coltman, Idaho, and was the oldest of five children. The themes of leadership, service, and friendship were prevalent throughout his life.

Brent enjoyed a pleasant childhood living in “the country”. His parents taught him to work hard and he had several chores growing up such as milking the family cow each morning. He was able to spend lots of time with his grandparents and cousins from both sides of his family and developed a strong family identity including a deep connection to his German heritage. As the oldest brother, he loved teasing and pranking his younger siblings and formed many lasting friendships with boys his age as they terrorized the neighborhood.

He learned to play the trumpet and was proud to be ‘first chair’ in his high school band.

He married Vicki Clark Taylor on June 11, 1971, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho LDS temple. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all of their children, grandchildren, and siblings. Brent and Vicki had a wonderful, happy marriage, and others would often comment what a great couple they were. They were best friends and did everything together including golfing, horse riding, traveling, and church service.

Brent considered rearing their five children as one of their greatest accomplishments and they now adore their twenty-one grandchildren.

Brent received his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from BYU and upon graduation, went into the family business with his dad and two brothers. Brent eventually became the president of the family business, Decker’s, Inc, which provided the greater Idaho area with sanitation products and services. After selling the business in 1995, Brent continued in the industry and later served as Regional Sales Manager for WAXIE Sanitary Supply for several years. Because of his hard-working style, engaging personality, and quick wit, he quickly became highly regarded by his customers, employees, and peers. He was often sought out for his keen business acumen and was relied on to provide highly-insightful judgment.

Brent enjoyed horses throughout much of his life. Most summers were filled with weekend trail rides, camping trips into the wilderness of Idaho, and the annual fall hunting trip with his brothers, sons, and father. On these trips Brent was the campfire entertainer, sharing stories and jokes and telling the group where “a guy could go” to explore different parts of the country. He enjoyed learning the lay of the land and finding great hunting spots.

Brent was larger than life and had a witty personality, quickly putting others at ease and making them laugh. He had a special talent for creating nick-names for individuals in his life, including his siblings, school teachers, and friends. We always asked him how he came up with them and he would say, “they just come to me”.
His children and grandchildren loved to see him joke around and sing, “If I were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof and impersonate the lion from the Wizard of Oz by singing, “If I were the King of the Forest!”

Brent was hard-driving and impatient when something needed done. One of Brent’s mottos was “Do it Now” and “Do your work”. He worked hard every day of his life. We joked that his theme song was "I’m in a Hurry to Get Things Done", by Alabama.

Brent had a strong testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and the blessings of loving and serving those around him. He accepted and served faithfully in many church positions, including Bishop, Missionary Training Center Branch President, temple worker, and in a Bishopric at BYU-Idaho with his cousin, Brad Foster. As a young man, he served as a missionary in Berlin, Germany, and remained fluent in the German language throughout his life. He and his wife, Vicki, also served a Family History mission after his retirement.

Brent was in charge of his life up until the day he passed away. Two months before his passing, he informed his family of their assignments for his funeral, including the precise minutes each person should speak. He wanted to make sure his sweetheart, Vicki, was cared for upon his passing and made assignments for each child.

Due to Brent’s failing health in his last couple of years, he and Vicki became nearly inseparable, and he frequently expressed his adoration and gratitude for her loving care.

Brent is survived by his wife, Vicki, and their five children: Greg Taylor (Vicki Jo), Jed Taylor (Julie), Teneal Taylor, Doug Taylor (Adele), and April Meyers (Todd). Brent and Vicki have 21 beautiful grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings, Greg Taylor (Chris), Teresa Taylor, Kurt Taylor (Leisa), and Nita Bloxham.

The family will receive guests at a viewing on Tuesday, February 1st from 6 to 8 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, UT. The Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 12 noon in the South Mountain 7th Ward Chapel, 272 East Traversepoint Drive, Draper, Utah, with a brief viewing from 1100 to 1145. The services will also be streamed via Zoom.

Guestbook/Condolences

So sorry to hear of your loss. Bishop Taylor is an amazing man, who showed so much love to my family. He ordained me a deacon and priest. He was there for me through my teenage years. I remember spending many early Saturday mornings playing basketball with Bishop Taylor and the young men in Coltman . Your family was always there for me and my family taking us to mutual, practices, campouts, scouts, & school activities.
Bishop Taylor is a great role model of mine and I sincerely appreciate the time he spent helping my family and myself. He lived a great life and thank you for sharing him with our Ward and your neighbors, the Durtschi's.
Love always,
Lane Durtschi

Vicki, I’m so sad to hear of Brent’s passing. The fond memories I have of growing up in Coltman and the crazy fun times we had. My first motorcycle ride was with Brent when he got a bike. Hello Vicky
So sorry to hear about your husband’s passing. He was the most likable person during my mission in Salt Lake City and both of you were very dear to me. I remember when he got us front door “seats” at the Pioneers Parade in 2019, what a pleasant memory 🤓
God bless you and keep you safe until you both meet again.

Sincerely

Brent had such a positive and joyful personality that it was always fun to be around him. Fortunately, as a cousin, I got to see him fairly often even though we lived far away. I can still remember as a boy when our parents would take us back to Idaho and we would get to see him. I looked forward to those trips very much and to some of the escapades we would have. He made everything around him a little brighter. We will miss him and look forward someday to seeing him again.

I have been blessed to have worked with Brent at Waxie. I worked hard to recruit him. He was not an easy sell and I will always be grateful to Vicki for helping deliver him. He was everything we thought he would be. He helped us in very significant ways. I will remember Brent for his integrity and business sense. Miki and I send our deepest sympathies to Vicki and the family.

Dear Vicki and family,
It has been over 50 years since we have seen one another. I have not forgotten our high school years nor you and Brent. It is with sadness that I write this note of sympathy to you and your family. You and Brent were good friends to me and we truly regret his passing so early in life. I'm so grateful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation that we share. Hold tight to that knowledge Vicki, and we aren't too far away from you, as we live in South Jordan. This is a difficult time for all of you and will be in
the future. The pain of loosing a loved one never goes away but does soften over time. You are in our prayers.

Just heard about Brents passing and many fond memories come to mind from Coltman growing up with the Taylors in the ward. Brent was always such a fun, cheerful guy. My older brothers David and Danny were more his age but I sure liked all the Taylors. My families love goes out to you all. Love, Randy
PS Wish I could have gone to the funeral just to see Greg and Curt and Teresa.

There was not a finer man who had a beautiful sweetheart for a wife. That smile will definitely be missed. He can be so proud of his wonderful posterity. If they all follow his example of how to give to others, love your family, enjoy a good laugh, and I could go on and on. It has been such a privilege to claim him as a friend and a good husband. He knew how to serve his fellowmen and women. He will be missed by all of us.

Sweet Vicki, I am so grateful I was able to attend Brent's services virtually. It was such a special service with love, joy and hope. I enjoyed so much learning more about your amazing companion...he truly was a builder. You both were so positive and personal with those you serviced at the MTC. It was truly our pleasure to be there to witness this and to participate with you. I cannot imagine the feelings and sorrow you are experiencing now. I watch my father struggle with his loneliness and know that it is only through the comforting blessings of the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ that he has managed these past seven months since Mom passed. I know you will be blessed also. I love you and am so grateful for our time together. Kathy Bertasso
