Brooklyn Michelle Haycock Barrett, age 21, passed away on April 30th, 2024, in Saratoga Springs, Utah. Brooklyn was born on January 18th, 2003, in Garden Grove, California. She was adopted at birth by Josh and Megan Haycock. Sadly, Megan died of cancer in 2013, and Brooklyn was later reunited with her biological mother, Elizabeth Steele Barrett, and her husband, Adam “Bear” Barrett, who adopted her. Brooklyn loved spending time with her parents and her siblings.

Brooklyn attended Herriman High School, from where she graduated in 2021. She was employed at a daycare at her time of death. She loved working with children.

Brooklyn loved traveling and going on vacations with her family. She found happiness in anything to do with water and taught swim lessons and served as a lifeguard for many summers. She enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, watching planes take off and land, ice skating, Dr. Pepper, taking pictures of sunsets, and cars. She loved all things beautiful, especially butterflies and wildflowers. She had a favorite stuffed whale that she named “Whaley”, which was almost always with her.

No matter her struggles, Brooklyn’s smile and laugh would always light up the room. She would cheer anyone up, even when she herself was suffering. Although there is heartbreak for her surviving friends and family, we are comforted to know that she was met in heaven by many who love her. She will be sorely missed.

Brooklyn is survived by her parents, Liz and Bear Barrett; her siblings, Lydia Haycock, Madison Barrett, Isaac Barrett, and Daniel Barrett; her grandparents, Linda Steele, Jack (Sandy) Steele, Bonnie Barrett, Myron (Dawn) Barrett, Al (Cynthia) Rounds, Nancy (Byron) Villaverde, good friend Caleb Heiniger and many other extended family members and friends. Brooklyn was preceded in death by her mother, Megan Rounds Haycock; her grandparents, Richard and Peggy Haycock; cousin Zoie Belnap and good friends, Kathryn and Boyd Harris.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Eastlake 6th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located 4517 West Mille Lacs Drive in South Jordan, Utah. Viewings will be held at the same location Thursday evening, May 9th from 6-8PM as well as prior to services beginning at 11:30AM. Interment will follow at the Memorial Holladay Cemetery in Holladay, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe has been set up to help with unexpected funeral costs.
