  • Bruce Edward Schmeichel, born May 3, 1938 in Highland Park, Michigan to the late Fred and Pearl Schmeichel, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Saturday, January 29 in Sandy, Utah.

Bruce leaves behind his beloved children Andrea Danlin (Cecilia), Stacey Schmeichel (Darren Rowley), Gary Schmeichel (Amy), and Teresa Capener (Ted-deceased); his brother Neill Schmeichel (Joan), his twenty-two grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, whom he adored immensely. Bruce is preceded in death and welcomed with eternal open arms by his wife, Lois, his son, Kevin, and his sister, Jeannette.

Bruce grew up in Ferndale, Michigan where he graduated from Lincoln high school in 1956 and went on to pursue a career as an entrepreneur with a passion for sales and advertising. He met the love of his life, Lois, at Family Beach, MI, where Lois was working for the summer while Bruce was vacationing with a friend in 1957. They fell in love and began their beautiful marriage on July 24, 1959. Bruce and Lois, were devout members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since joining in 1969 after the passing of their oldest son. Bruce was ordained as a High Priest of the church in 1981 and honored the priesthood in his everyday life.

Bruce was well-traveled and lived in many states including Michigan, Oregon and Florida before finally settling in Utah. Home was always where his family was. Bruce and his family enjoyed summers at the ‘Schmottage’ and spending time out on the lake. Always ready to make those around him laugh, Bruce shared his love and wisdom through his great sense of humor. His hobbies included tennis, preaching the gospel, and watching his family grow. He will be deeply missed by all of those who loved him.

Please join us in the celebration of Bruce's life. Arrangements have been made for a viewing at 1pm on February 4, 2022 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT, followed by a service at 2pm and gravesite dedication to follow. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of the caregivers who helped keep Bruce home and comfortable.

I have very fond memories of your dad and mom. We rode bikes t ogether, baked pies, remodeled a church and took trips to the Washington temple with 12 teenagers. Your dad was always the voice of calm. Sorry for your loss.

I miss Bruce and please know that he is remembered in the story of my life. Bruce and I were schoolmates from 1952 to 1955 and remained friends throughout our life. We often visited each other when he and Lois lived to Florida and frequently talked on the phone after he moved to Utah.
    Warm regards to his Family
