Celebration of Life
The Chateau, 1910 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, UT 84092Thursday Jul 25, 2024 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Our Beloved Byron passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 25, at his home in Sandy, Utah, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Byron Howard Marcroft was born to Howard and Patricia Marcroft on August 17, 1961, in Provo, Utah. He had one sister, Marina and they grew up in Salt Lake City where he graduated from Brighton High School in 1979.
After high school, Byron began his career as the receiving and shipping manager for Home Depot, a position he held for 30 years. Byron took great pride in his work and always had the biggest smile on his face. He was known as one of the hardest and strongest workers, continuing to work with a smile and a positive attitude even during his seven year battle with cancer. He was well loved by his Home Depot Family and many of them came to visit him once he retired due to his illness.
Byron met the love of his life Mashelle (Shelly) Hendrickson in 1995, and they were later married on June 19, 2000. To say these two were soul mates would be an understatement. The love the two shared was beautiful and their song “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin truly described their love and bond for each other. Shelly had 2 beautiful children, Zachari and Alyssa, whom Byron lovingly became the best bonus dad to them. Later in life, he became a grandpa to 3 wonderful boys, Ryker, Zayden, and Kian, sharing many fond memories with all of them.
Byron had a great love for music (with classic rock being his favorite), books (especially Stephen King), old black & white TV horror shows, science fiction shows/books, and nature shows. He was very proud of his collection of unique books and loved to share them with anyone who asked. He also had a passion for science and history, subjects he was very knowledgeable about and could discuss for hours. In his earlier years he was very into fitness, particularly weightlifting and body building, and was well versed in nutrition and health. Byron was a very strong man but had the kindest, gentlest, and most generous soul always looking out for the best in everyone.
Byron is survived by his mother Patricia Marcroft, his father Howard Marcroft, his bonus mother Kristine Marcroft, his sister Marina Marcroft, his daughter Alyssa Hansen, son Zachari Steele, three grandsons Ryker, Zayden, and Kian, his stepbrother Shane Hendrickson, his son-in-law Spencer Hansen, his uncle Harold Tervort, aunt Marilyne Cleeves (Dick), and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shelly, just after their anniversary. Byron was ready to be with Shelly again after three long years without her. We hope you and Shelly are dancing with the Angels in heaven. Everyone here misses you both and love you both dearly and will forever hold you in our hearts.
We would like to thank his wonderful oncologists and team of doctors over the years, Suncrest Hospice, especially nurse Christine and CNA Amber. A special thank you to all the Home Depot Family for their concern and love. We would also like to thank all of the many friends and family for their outpouring love and care to him and our family.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor on Thursday, July 25, at Larkin Sunset Gardens at the Chateau, 1910 E Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, UT 84092 from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to the American Cancer Society in honor of him.
“If you listen very hard, the tune will come to you at last. When all are one, and one is all, to be a rock and not roll, and she’s buying a stairway to Heaven."

Guestbook/Condolences
Words CAN'T even express the hurt my heart feels right now, not only because you are gone. Mostly because for the last 6 years I have been absent. I have lost three very important people to me these last 3 years. I really didn't get to say goodbye to any of you. I am SOOO sorry. I hope you know I am fighting again and am in treatment. I am 4 months sober today and I know you, my mom, and my grandpa are with me helping me fight this battle and cheering me on.

My dearest brother. I miss you so much but I’m glad you’re finally out of pain. The Night after you died, I looked up in the sky and saw a blank spot in the stars. One of the stars have gone dim. Because like what you were for us. You’re warmth shown more brightly than the sun. My life will forever be Darkened without you there. The way you’ve affected so many lives by making a seat the absurdity in life and laugh. Boy, did we laugh with you! Your warmth and Fire sweat is a loss to the world, not just me. We were like twins, I’ve known you my entire life from the time you came home from the hospital at one year of age. I have loved you even though I told mom to take you back to the hospital. I have loved you every day of your life. And I will love you every day for the rest of mine. I miss you Byron. I miss you so much.
Byron was wonderful son, who was always there to help us when he could loved him very much and he loved me as well. I miss you. I miss you.
Wishing family and friends peace and comfort in the days ahead. I’m so sorry for you loss.
We’ll always remember Byron for his gentle and happy disposition, his love of life and laughter… He was just the kind of guy you’d want for a neighbor, a friend, a relative, a nephew.
Rest in peace and happiness, Byron.
