Listen to Obituary
Cameron Gates Young, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on March 3, 2026. Cam was a friend to anyone and everyone, and we cannot even begin to count how many lives were touched by the love he had to give.
Cam was born on March 21, 1972, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George Cannon Young, Jr., and Diana Lynn Sorenson. He was the second in a lineup of eleven children and the great-great grandson of the prophet Brigham Young—a family legacy he was very proud of.
Cam served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Snow College and was a lifelong BYU fan.
He met the love of his life, Amy Geurts, and the two were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 27th, 1998. Together they brought five wonderful children into the world. Cam loved his wife and kids. He was their biggest supporter, their most avid sports fan, and the best dad in the world.
Cam loved music and could often be heard singing his own made-up lyrics. He loved cars, motorcycles, and Harley-Davidson. He loved sports and many family trips were taken to watch soccer tournaments. He is known for his flashy belt buckles and his love of silver—and if he could convince you to invest in silver, he would! He also enjoyed collecting star notes, unique currency replacements for misprinted bills.
Cam was an amazing man, generous with his time, means, and affection. He wanted to help everyone and would drop everything for anyone who needed him. He never met a stranger that didn't become a friend, Cam could and would make conversation with anyone and everyone. The legacy he leaves behind is one of service and love. He will be deeply, incredibly missed.
Cam is survived by his loving wife Amy, their five children, Colby, Madalyn, Cadence, Maylie, and Cayson, his mother Diana (Keith) Smith, three brothers, six sisters, nine in-laws, and several nieces and nephews, along with innumerable friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his father George and his brother Jordan.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 13, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy. A second viewing will take place on Saturday, March 14, from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Canyon View Stake Center, 9119 South 1300 East in Sandy. The funeral will follow at the same location at 11:00 AM. For those unable to attend in person, the funeral will be livestreamed and can be accessed by clicking the “Watch Services” button above. Cam will be interred with a private graveside service at Bountiful City Cemetery.
Guestbook/Condolences
Amy and family, we are so deeply sorry for the loss of Cam. We loved him, and he always treated our family—and particularly our kids—so well. He would give such great tips to our daughter at work 'just for her, not her coworkers,' and he was always such a big fan of Whitney, making her feel like the most important person in the room. Cam was just a fun guy to be around.
I loved how proud he was of all of you; he spoke of his family every time we talked. Serving with him in church callings in the past allowed me to truly see his goodness. He will be deeply missed in the neighborhood—we will certainly miss that big presence and that unmistakable voice.
Cameron was one of my very lively scouts back in a past day. He was part of a lively group. We had lots of good campouts and he was a great young man. I’m sorry to you all for your loss at this time. I pray you be blessed and strengthened?
Sending all our love!
Cameron has a giant heart, and is so kind. He’s Always so kind to our family everytime we saw him, always saying hi and catching up with what everyone was up to. Cam is an amazing person, he will be missed so much. Amy, we love you and the kids and our hearts break with yours.
Cam we never got to go for a airplane ride, fly high my friend
We can't imagine describing Cameron without using the term "extra mile!" From literally running across the parking lot to open a door for someone... to taking neighborhood boys out for pizza after a young men activity to get to know them better. Cameron had a smile for everyone and was always on the lookout for those in need of help in any way. He touched our lives and the lives of everyone around him. He will always have a special place in our hearts!!
My condolences to everyone in the family. May you always remember all the beautiful memories. Sending hugs and prayers.
How does one to begin to describe a friendship with Cam? I just can't! He was everything. He never met a stranger. His smile warmed the room and his personality would put a smile on even a stranger's face.
I remember after Kevin had one of his hip surgeries, it started to snow before we went to bed that night; I set my alarm early so I could go out and shovel the walks before work. Only to wake up to see Cam just finishing them. He was such a sweetheart. I have a grandson named after him ... literally. When my daughter lost her 2nd child at 27 weeks pregnant, Cam came right over to offer her a blessing and comfort her. Before he left, he gave her a hug and that just sealed the deal for her; his name would be Cameron.
After moving away from the neighborhood, I never once saw Cam I didn't feel as if we had just been talking yesterday. He definitely left a mark on my heart. If the world had more Cam's, it would be a far better place.
To Amy and the children, you were truly his world. He would have done anything for you guys. Remember his love and all the memories you have.
Love you guys always and will always hold each of you in my heart.
LIVE LIKE Cam!
My condolences goes out to you and your family.
