Carlyle Croyle Smith, a cherished father and dedicated professional, passed away quietly on June 11, 2025, at the age of 97 in Holladay, Utah. He leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered not only by his family but by all those whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Born on March 15, 1928, in Los Angeles, California, Carlyle was known for his trustworthy persona and unwavering dedication, traits that were hallmarks of both his service to his country and his career. Carlyle served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. Shortly after returning home, Carlyle married Jean Miriam Hardy in 1953, underlining a new chapter filled with love and family.
For 36 years, Smitty was a steadfast employee of Mountain Bell Phone Company until the breakup in 1984. He and some ex Mountain Bell associates started Precision Wire and Telephone. Carlyle had a lifelong passion for bowling that he actively participated in for eight decades and was inducted into the Great Salt Lake Bowling Hall of Fame.
Carlyle was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean, and their son, Stewart R. Smith.
He is survived by his sons Steven C. Smith, Scott E. Smith (Valerie Smith), and Shane T. Smith (Karen Elliott), each carrying a unique bond with their father. Extended family members grandchildren Tyson Smith (Deceased), Brittney (Jay)Thane, Cory (Darci) Smith, Benjamin S. Smith (Janette Krulick). Shardawney (Nick Cullimore). Great Grandchildren Savannah Thane, Peyton Thane, and Berkley Smith.
Notably, all of Carlyle’s surviving sons have iron overload disease, a testament to the proverb he exemplified: "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17).
A small intimate graveside service was held for immediate family.
Carlyle’s memory will be celebrated quietly among friends and family who were touched by his reliable and caring nature.
So sorry to hear this. Carlyle was one of the kindest person I know. Always fun to be around . Positive , cheerful, honest, genuine friend. Definitely a people person knew how to cheer people up around him. Many awesome bowling memories that will last a lifetime.
