Carol Engen Beus, 83, American Fork, Utah passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Carol was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.
She was forever kind, patient, optimistic, and loving. She will be greatly missed while her memory and legacy will be remembered and cherished. She was born on April 10, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Corey and Norma Engen. She grew up in McCall, Idaho where her father Corey Engen developed and managed the Brundage Mountain ski area.
She married Gary Beus on December 19, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple and spent the next 63 years at his side supporting each other through life’s journey. Their married life included time in Provo, Utah for undergraduate schooling (BYU), Blacksburg, Virginia for graduate school (Virginia Tech), Orem, Utah as Gary worked as a professor in the Statistics Department at Brigham Young University.
Gary & Carol were co-founders of the American Heritage School and Carol worked there for many years as an administrator and in the music program. Later they moved to St. George, Utah and they worked as Directors of the Family History Center for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Their last few years together were spent in American Fork, Utah among family and friends. Carol spent her life as a devoted wife and mother and well as providing endless service to others. She had an especially great love of music and was an accomplished musician. She held many callings in the church, but more than anything loved to play the organ and did so throughout her life up until her last few days. My condolences to you Gary. I thought the world of Carol. I missed her when you moved away. May our Heavenly Father watch over and bless you at this time. Sincerely Ruth Snarr.
Carol was one of my favorite cousins. Gary and Carol will always be remembered by myself and others as the kindest and best people on the planet. I know she is out of pain and probably having a wonderful reunion with those in heaven but she will be missed by those of us left here without her. My heart goes out to Gary and family and we will be praying for the Lord to bringg you comfort.
Gary my heart break for you. Carol was an exceptional soul and both of you have been in memories, my thoughts and prayers. Our early pre-teen years farming in Clinton has been a sweet memory for about 80 years. I treasure our long history together and Carol’s seeet and loving personality. Sending love and prayers for all your family. Blair & Jacque.
I am sad to know of Carol's passing. I first met Carol Engen when we lived in the same dorm at BYU...Kimball Hall. Just a few years later husband John and I moved to North Orem and she was Carol Beus in our same ward. Carol was often the spiritual living teacher in Relief Society always presenting wonderful and delightful lessons. Or she was playing the piano or organ for something. We had kids the same ages and traded carpooling to the American Heritage School. More years later when we found out Carol and Gary were the Family History Directors in St George we decided that's where we wanted to serve our mission! She was a wonderful friend and I owe her so much for her examples. I know she is now probably teaching to Heavenly classes. My condolences to all the family that she left this earth but we all know where she is and doing wonderful Heavenly assignments. Love to all her family.
Bishop Beus,
So sad you have lost the companionship of your beautiful Carol for a time. But happy to know she is free from the pain of her physical body
I loved you both through many years of joy in our ward. You always smiled and made me laugh.
Sending my love and prayers to you and your family. Mary

Mom and I loved Carol. It was great having she and Gary as neighbors. They were so sweet to everyone. We will miss them both. We hope Gary will be comfortable in his new home. Condolences to the whole Beus family as they grieve their amazing wife, mother, and grandmother.
What a beautiful lady Carol was! Always kind and gracious. May your heart be comforted, and may peace and joy rest upon you. Deepest condolences.
I'm happy that you had a beautiful day for a wonderful tribute to a precious lady. I was able to watch the broadcast of the services, and your mother was right, "It will be fine."
Gary and Carol were special friends and great role models for us as we were beginning to raise a family when we moved into the ward when Gary was bishop.
May the spirit of the Lord sustain you as you adjust to life without Carol's physical presence. Know that she loves you and misses being with you, as much as you miss her.
