Carol "the Old One" (Schock) Rippe passed away at her home in South Jordan, Utah on January 3, 2025, at the age of 75. We are saddened to have lost her. She lived a full and wonderful life. It is such a heartfelt loss to lose a wife, mom, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She was born to her parents Fred Schock and Olga Hess on February 18, 1949 in LaMoure, North Dakota. While growing up, she spent her summers on her grandparents' farm tending to the farm animals and chores. She also spent her time babysitting young children. Carol graduated from Deming High School on May 29, 1967 in Deming, New Mexico. She met the love of her life, Gene, while waitressing at the Oasis Restaurant in New Mexico. He said the food was awful, (her brother Gary was the cook there) but went there anyway just to see her. She married Gene M. Rippe September 7, 1968, which soon followed the birth of her three children. While married, they made their homes in the states of New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. She spent most of her early years raising her children and creating a loving and happy home. Once grown, she went to work at Castleton's and ZCMI for many years. She received awards for employee of the month and for achieving outstanding performance for her sales. Afterwards, she worked at Millcreek Gardens Nursery Center.

She was an amazing and strong woman for her size, a jack of all trades. Once retired, she kept busy with all types of projects to beautify the homes she lived in. She would build extravagant vegetable and flower gardens. Every season the color combinations she planted were amazing to see. Never a single weed and manicured to perfection. She always had neighbors stopping by commenting on her yard. She even won Yard of the Month in the Daybreak neighborhood community. She designed a large backyard pond waterfall which she built on her own. She stocked it with various aquatic plants and koi fish which she made sure she fed twice daily. She began woodworking by designing birdhouses taught by her father. She later built wooden decks and paver patios, framed and finished basements, built trellises for her vines to grow on and built furniture requested by her family. Designing plans for one-of-a-kind kitchens, bathrooms, family rooms and bedrooms. She also took up canvas painting which she displayed around the home. You would catch her on the tallest ladder adding a new coat of paint on the walls and ceilings even though it wasn't needed. She would take time to help paint her grandchildren's bedroom walls to make their rooms their own. She even added murals of their choosing. She took pride in designing her salt water aquarium accumulating the most vibrant colors of fish and corals. She was known for her mastery of the skill of sewing. She has made dozens of quilts, blankets, clothes, handmade dolls and clothes for said dolls. She always made sure her loved one's clothes were hemmed to perfection. Every December she would take handmade blankets she worked on during the year for donation to Primary Children's Hospital. She loved cooking for her family. She always had a batch of baked goods available. She would prepare your favorite meal and cake for your birthday. During the summer months she would gather the vegetables and fruits she had grown and then start the canning process. She was known for her amazing spaghetti sauce, salsa, and jams. She would distribute them to her loved ones and neighbors. She would spend every waking hour in December preparing countless of sweet treats for the people she loves, even mailing pounds of candy to our out-of-state family members. She always made sure everyone else had a full plate and was enjoying their food before making herself a plate. She persevered through countless medical issues, surviving each one. No matter how sick she was, she would always come home and tend to her yard.

She will always be with us. We love you Carol, forever and always.

She is survived by her loving husband Gene M. Rippe; her children Paula Ashton (Adam), Scott Rippe (Jennifer),and Keri Rippe; her seven grandchildren Justin (Chelsea), Emily (Anthony), Hunter (Kenzie), Jordan (Taylor), Kyle, Natasha (Mason), and Samantha; her five great grandchildren Damien, Bentley, Riley, Izabella and Parker; her brother Terry (Carol) Schock and sister Donna (Charles) De Angelo ; and her best friend Yonne Benson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Olga Schock, her step mother Jan Schock; her in-laws Martin and Ida Rippe; two siblings Fred Schock and Gary Schock; and her great granddaughter Karlee Rae Rippe.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Symbii Home Health and Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.

Guestbook/Condolences

Such a wonderful, amazing, talented and sprightly woman. Though Gene had always thoughtfully and lovingly called her the "old one" - she was always the one to be up and ready for a task, or chore at hand. Talented in all of her hobbies and interests, she helped me appreciate things more than the mechanical side of my mind and capabilities. Her superior skill to look at something and create / make it occur was something she had an instinctual / natural talent to do. My former mother-in-law... she and I used to playfully gruff the Tim Taylor of the former television show, 'Tool Time' and I will never forget building that deck while she and I enjoyed the soundtrack of Forrest Gump ~ especially San Francisco and Turn, Turn, Turn! She will continue to live in our hearts and minds. My sincere condolences to her husband Gene, to her daughter Paula, to her son Scott and to her daughter Keri.
