1935 ~ 2025
Carolyn Ann “Mitzi” Hansen Brady, age 90, passed away on November 28, 2025, from the effects of aortic stenosis and Parkinson’s disease, the latter which she fought for the last 10 years. Mitzi was born in Tremonton, Utah, on June 7, 1935, the fifth of five children born to Leland James and Ione Felsted Hansen.
Mitzi lived with her family between Tremonton and Garland, Utah, and attended Bear River High School where she participated in many extracurricular activities including newspaper, debate, and modern dance. She won awards for being an accomplished pianist, represented Bear River High School at Girls’ State in 1952, and became valedictorian of their 1953 graduating class.
After high school, she attended the University of Utah where she was a member of Spurs and Chi Omega Sorority. She graduated in 1957 with an honors degree in early childhood education which she used to teach 5th grade in West Point, New York, El Paso, Texas, Tucson, Arizona, and Wellesley, Massachusetts.
It was in Tucson that she met Rod Brady, a University of Utah graduate and Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. They were married October 25, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rod’s career then took them, over the next 56 years, to live in Tucson Arizona; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; Bethesda, Maryland; Ogden, Utah; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mitzi supported her husband in his professional and church assignments and completed a master’s degree in her 60s. She enjoyed all her church assignments and her work as a community volunteer. Some of her last volunteer activities were being a docent at the University of Utah Fine Arts Museum and being a volunteer reading tutor at Lincoln Elementary. She was also an active member of the Assistance League of Salt Lake City. She wasn’t shy about her opinions on civic matters and was pleased to have letters to the editor published in major papers in Los Angeles, Ogden, and Salt Lake City. Mitzi was honored by the Utah Emeritus Association in 2005 for her work in the community and received an honorary doctorate degree from Weber State University, also in 2005. She always said her all-time, most-favorite project was raising her three sons, Howard, Ryan, and Brooks.
Mitzi was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney H. Brady, her parents and her four siblings and their spouses: Marjorie (Paul) Kutchinski, Leland Jay (Hally), Donald (Carol), and Gary (died as an infant). She is survived by her three sons Howard (Victoria) Seattle, Ryan (Kristy) Sugarhouse, Brooks (Nicole) Sandy, and eight grandchildren, Blythe (Glenn) Ferrell, Hayden, Spencer, Matthew, Grant, Kenton, Creed and Miles.
Funeral services will be held at 1300 E Fairfax Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84103 (Federal Heights Ward Chapel) on December 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held at the same location an hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, purchase a book for a small child in Mitzi’s memory.

Condolences to Carolyn "Mitzi" Brady's family. We connected at the
anniversary party for Rod's sister Joanne & Dean Frandsen last year and met
son Howard! Lots of Howard's in the family so it was a fun party!
We like the suggestion to share books with the children - she loved teaching.
We love the Brady family,
love from the Pierson's.
I was unable to get to Salt Lake city for the funeral of your sweet mom today but I watched it on my computer. I wanted to give you all a hug in person and visit after the funeral.
I understand that Howard lives out of town and my kids all knew him very well. I can't believe that you all aren't kids anymore. Time goes so fast especially as one get older.
Your mom was a very special person in my life when you all lived in Ogden. You can be so proud of her life. She was one of the smartest ,nicest persons I knew. I always loved our visits. She raised smart, nice boys and she must have done it mostly alone because your dad was gone so much.
I hope our paths may cross in the future. Come to the east side of Bear Lake to Indian Creek in the summer and visit on weekends. All my kids and I are there and would love to see you all!
Love from us all, Carolyn Nebeker Rasmussen
