Carolyn Madeline Casady Parrish passed away November 6, 2024 at the age of 88 in West Jordan Utah. Carolyn was born February 28, 1936 to Carl Casady and Madeleine Cottis in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the 3rd of 4 children.
Carolyn was introduced to the love of her life by her best friend and later Sister-in-law Christella Evans and on November 3, 1952 was married to Marion Carlyle Parrish (Rip) in Denver, Colorado. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1966. Together Rip and Carolyn enjoyed over 40 years, hunting, fishing, rafting, playing cards and slots, traveling and so much more, but their greatest adventure was raising their children which included 4 sons and 1 daughter. These children would bless her with 13 grandchildren. While they were young it was not uncommon to host all of their grandchildren and even extras for swimming parties with a fresh garden supper most weekends in the summer. Their posterity has expanded to include 45 great grandchildren and one expected great great grandchild most of whom received a special quilt handmade by granny.
Carolyn was an advocate for hard work and was rarely idle. From a young age Carolyn started working and held many jobs her favorite being her career as a custom decorator for JC Penny where she was recognized for her accomplishments in this field. She continued this work even after retirement taking pride in the care of her home and yard, Carolyn spent the last few decades of her life in Ferron, Utah where she became a pink lady volunteer, avid bunco player, Utah Jazz fan and regular at the local Grub Box. She continued to enjoy spending time with friends and family.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where her favorite calling was serving in the nursery. She will be remembered most for her straight forward, feisty approach to life, legendary banana and zucchini bread, and colorful language but mostly for her love and generosity. She will be greatly missed.
Carolyn is proceeded in death by her, spouse Marion, Son Scott, parents, in-laws and many other family and friends. She leaves behind her children Marilyn Parrish, Carl (Diane) Parrish, Gordon Parrish, and Doug (JaNene) Parrish, all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and other friends and family.
Guestbook/Condolences
We are so sorry for your loss of your mother. Please know you’re in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Family of Cousin Carolyn.
I am so sorry to hear about Carolyn’s passing. She was always a kind and concerned friend when we had a chance to be together. Her friendship with my parents, Tony and Virginia Divino, when they were alive was wonderful to grow up with. I remember many years of pheasant hunting at Auntie’s and Uncle Hugh’s farm in Vernal and the long weekend visits with the family which me and my brother, Tony, remember well.
Tony, my brother, said to express his condolences also when I came to the funeral today and he would have come to the funeral but he’s on a planned trip to Cabo this week. I fully intended on coming this morning but I don’t drive in the snow and when I awoke it was coming down hard and is still snowing now, 2 hours later.
So please, know that I am thinking about you all, as well as Carolyn. I am so sorry for your loss. And I am sending you virtual hugs and prayers. God Bless Carolyn with all the wonders of heaven and you all with loving remembrances.
Love,
Marilyn Scott
ps.
Clay Hodges said to hug you for him also.
