Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Cleva Jeanette Warner Stoney passed away in her home on Aug 1, 2024, of natural causes.
Cleva was born October 29, 1934, in Salt Lake City UT, the daughter of Earl E. Warner and Wanda Adair Warner. She attended South High and married Richard L. Stoney in 1952 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They were divorced in 2012.
Cleva was a devoted matriarch and nurtured her family, friends and community throughout her life. She was a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in numerous callings as a teacher and leader including the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society and Young Women. She also served in the South Jordan Temple for several years.
Cleva loved gardening and grew both vegetables and flowers with zeal. She was a master of candy making and for many years made delicious chocolate-covered Easter treats, which she imaginatively decorated and personalized for friends and family. She also made and decorated wedding and birthday cakes. She loved playing cards and games and had weekly afternoon games with friends. She played golf most of her life and in her younger years won many Salt Lake County tournaments. In her later years she often outplayed her children and son-in-law right up to her last game. She sewed cherished quilts for her family and made Christmas extra special with her homemade treats and gifts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends and attended as many events, recitals and baptisms as her time and health allowed. She ended each day in prayer for all those she knew whether they needed it or not.
She is survived by her children Keith Stoney (Eileen), Julie Mason (John), Sherie Scott, R. Brad Stoney (Julie), Steven Stoney (Sheri), Jan Thorn and her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Jolene Swift and Glenna Thomas (Homer) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Jean Ivie, brother William (Bill) Warner and son-in-law Mark Scott.
Funeral services will be held Monday Aug. 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held at the same location at 11:30 a.m.

What a beautiful tribute to your angel Mother. She will definitely be missed. Sending hugs your way.
Your mother sounds like the consummate nurturing parent and role model. It’s impossible to lose those that we love and who loved us. I’m glad you have each other and can hold each other tight and carry her in your hearts forever. So much love!
Bruce and I are so saddened about the passing of our wonderful neighbor Cleva. Living next to her for 34 years, she has made a profound impact on our lives. Her kindness, generosity, and selflessness were evident in everything she did. She was always thinking of others, and her presence brought warmth and comfort to those around her. She was so proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always speaking so highly of them. Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. May her memory be a blessing and her spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
It was my privilege to be Mrs. Stoney's doctor for many years. I will always remember her dignity, warmth and good humor.
clearly has been my very dear friend for many years. She was very thoughtful and caring and we enjoyed several years of weekly card games. I am really going to miss her but I'm happy she is able to see clearly again and is free of all her aches and pains. It's a wonderful legacy of love and caring she has left.
