Clinton Carwin Dayley, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah, on July 25, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with illness. He was born on January 25, 1937, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Violet Eckersell and Clinton Rhodes Dayley. Carwin and his brother Bill were very young when their father died, with Carwin being only two years old at the time.
Though his given name was Clinton, he was known to family and friends simply as Carwin—a name that came to reflect his quiet strength, generosity, and steadfast presence.
He honorably served in the military for nine years, demonstrating the same dedication and discipline that marked every chapter of his life.
In 1967, Carwin married the love of his life, Janet Arlene McCarty. They shared 58 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and family. Together, they raised three sons: Clint (Carrie), Troy (Monica), and David (Denni) Dayley. Carwin took immense pride in his family and worked tirelessly to provide a strong foundation for them. He taught his boys the value of hard work, integrity, and persistence—lessons they carry with them to this day.
Carwin spent his career as a proud member of the Operating Engineers Union, where he was known for his skill, dedication, and tireless work ethic. After retiring, he continued to stay active, pursuing the things he loved most.
One of his greatest joys was building and spending time at his cherished family cabin—a labor of love that became a lasting symbol of his craftsmanship and devotion to his family. As he worked on the cabin, he passed on his values by teaching his sons a strong work ethic through hands-on experience, building not just a structure, but lasting memories and character.
Carwin was also a devoted dog lover, finding companionship and joy in the company of his beloved pets throughout his life.
He was a proud grandfather to Alyssa Christenson and Brooke Dayley, daughters of Clint and Carrie. He was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Violet Christenson, daughter of Alyssa and her husband, Chandler. His granddaughters and great-grandchild brought him endless joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
He is also survived by his brother, William (Irene) Eckersell, with whom he shared a lifelong bond.
Carwin will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and the loving example he set. His legacy lives on in the family he built, the values he lived by, and the lives he touched.
Honoring dad’s wishes, a viewing service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many friends and relatives who have shown love and support over the past year and a half, as well as to the dedicated healthcare staff who provided compassionate care throughout Clinton’s illness.
Such a quiet and gentle man. He was so sweet and always welcomed me and my family. The funniest memory I have is when he told us about the immigration officials at the Casino- long story short, he was running too while clutching onto Janet’s purse! I loved hearing his stories! That was a fun night at the cabin. Goodbye Carwin and God bless you. You will forever be missed. All my love to you and your beautiful family. 🌺
Carwin was such a nice man and a wonderful friend. He and Janet have always been there since Troy and Monica married. We shared a lot of memorable and cherished events. He will forever missed. Rest in peace my dear friend.
The first time I meet Carwin was before Janet and him were married. Lynn McCarty Severson and some other friends were having a water fight at my house (just down the street from Janet house) when he was riding his motorcycle down our street on his way to see Janet. I was caring a bucket of water chasing Lynn, she ducked as I through it, of course I hit Carwin right in the face. He stopped and we laughed for a while and off he went to see Janet. Soon after they were married. He was a great man treated Janet and there three boys like angles. Ever time I would see him we would laugh about it.
Dear Janet and family, we are so sorry for your loss. Dud or Dudley as we called him was not only a wonderful cousin but a sweet kinds and very generous man. We had many great times at their Cabin Dancing and Sledding Some of the best times were with the Dayley’s . He will definitely be greatly missed! We send our love to you today and always. With much love , Paul & Linda Ralphs
