John Robert Heinlein

1958 ~ 2017

Beloved father, brother, uncle, friend, and animal lover.

John lived in Park City, Utah for 23 years, and raised his two daughters, step-son, and step-daughter with a classic mix of humor, grace, and rampant disregard for convention. He will be remembered fondly by everyone who came to know his quick wit, unique sense of humor, and love of anything with four legs. His many clients from his CPA firm appreciated his expertise and creativity that was always delivered with a clever story and a smile.

John was born in Chicago, Illinois, and remained a life-long Cubbies fan, like his parents, Robert and Betty Heinlein, now deceased. He realized a childhood dream when he attended a Cubs World Series game last year. John and his siblings grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and John attended Oklahoma State University. His first foray into Utah was as a Masters in Accountancy student at BYU, where he met his first wife, Maureen Kamdar. After they both enjoyed careers in finance at Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles, they moved to Park City with one baby, and one on the way to start their own business, and to raise their kids in the fresh mountain air.

John and Maureen established a successful accounting and tax business, with John retaining the business after their divorce. He specialized in HOA management and small business clients, and was the president of the Sun Peak HOA for several years. John married Lynn Koenig, and raised their four kids with all the advantages of attending Park City schools, skiing at all the resorts, playing every sport they wanted, and boating on the Jordanelle in the summer. The best way to grow up: The Park City way!

In the last few years, John was able to channel his expertise and passion for animals through volunteering and serving as Treasurer for Nuzzles and Co. He was held in high regard by board members and volunteers for his hard work, devotion to animals, and dedication to the cause and its success.

John was well-known for his love of Don Pedro's, White Castle, Crown Burger, a good cocktail, hikes with as many dogs as possible, unconventional food combinations, and thrilling boat driving. Above all else, he was known for his profound love of his children, his friends, and his extended family. He will be missed by many two-legged and four-legged friends alike.

John is survived by his beloved daughters, Danielle Heinlein, Jordan Heinlein, Meghan Kellner, and his son, Scott Kellner, all of Park City. He also leaves behind his brother Jim Heinlein of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his sister Barbara Falcon of Houston, Texas and in-laws, nephews, nieces, friends, and his devoted dog, Maggie. There will be a private service by invitation for family and friends.
