Listen to Obituary
Daniel Alan Nock was born on June 23, 1962, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Herbert Raymond and Jane Antill Nock. From a young age, Dan was a quiet child who spent countless happy hours with his best friend and neighbor, Mike Outly. He loved swimming in the backyard pool and cherished family trips to their camp in Tionesta.
As a teenager, Dan worked at Arby’s alongside his sister Lynn and close friends. He bought his first car, played in the Highlander’s marching band, and graduated from North Hills High School in 1981. Soon after graduating, he began working in the manufacturing industry, a field he dedicated more than 30 years of his life to.
On August 19, 1986, Dan married the love of his life, Lyla Finau, and together they began building a beautiful life and family. In April 1987, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and on April 8, 1989, Dan and Lyla were sealed for time and all eternity in the Washington D.C. Temple. He served faithfully in the church as a Young Men’s and Elders Quorum president, Ward Mission Leader, counselor in the bishopric, and most recently as an ordinance worker in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. He loved serving the Lord.
Family was everything to Dan. He was a devoted, hands-on father who often juggled two or three jobs while still showing up for his children's games, plays, school events, and church activities. He led by example, teaching them the values of hard work, kindness, and faith. Over the years, work and family moved them across six different states, where they built lasting friendships and memories. He absolutely adored Lyla. Wherever she was involved, he was right there beside her, supporting, helping, and cheering her on. He always prioritized her needs and wants above his own, and he took great joy in watching her light up a stage as an entertainer and emcee. He was, without question, her biggest fan.
Dan had a deep love for music, especially classic rock and country. He enjoyed watching detective shows, westerns, and just about anything on TV. But more than anything, he loved simply being with his family, whether it was a day at the park or a trip to Atlantic Beach. One of his favorite memories was a 2019 family reunion at Disneyland, a joyful time surrounded by the people he loved most.
In recent years, Dan worked as a chief maintenance supervisor in property management with NXT Management. He was a skilled handyman and could fix just about anything! He took great pride in his work and genuinely cared for the residents he served.
Dan passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 13th. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lynn.
He is survived by his younger brother, Lee; his beloved wife, Lyla; their children: Jaz Reece, Loni (Corbin) Coil, Sela, Daniel Jr. (Emily), Andi (Pauli) Pekipaki, Spencer (Sariah), and John; and their bonus daughter, Mandy Derian. He also leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren: Donnie, Lyla Alana and Reno Reece, Addison Derian, Clark, Sela Jane, Annie and David Coil, Maggie, Hadlee, Noah, Olivia, and Sophie Nock, Lesieli, and Pauliasi Raymond Pekipaki.
Dan was deeply loved and will be missed every single day. His legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Our lives has been blessed because your family cross paths ours when we choose to attend the Herriman 15 ward of the LDS church. We will always remember Daniel’s smiling and loving face when we meet at the Oqurriah Mountain UT temple or at church. He was truly an example of what it means to keep your covenant path. The Holy Spirit of promise has sealed him up to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection cloth with glory, immortality, and eternal life. He lives because Christ lives. Tu’a ’Ofa ‘Eiki atu!! Cheers!!
My sincere condolences to Dan’s family Dan was kind and helpful here at Incline
To Lyla, Jazzy, Loni Ann, Danny, Sela, Andi, Spencer; & John! My heart just breaks for all of you. I wish so much that I could be there to hug every single one of you. What a special and wonderful man he is. I know he hated leaving you all at this time. We can never really know the reasons why. There have been so many unexpected people passing in recent years. My Dad told me a few days ago that no righteous man leaves this earth before his time. We all know Dan was a wonderfully kind and righteous man. You are all in my prayers, by name, daily. I know he won’t be far away if you need him. I love you all so much! 💗
My condolences to the Nock family for the loss of Dan, who was my friend from our high school years.
