Darrel Kent Wright

1931 ~ 2021

Darrel Kent Wright passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2021, just shy of his 90th birthday.

Kent was born in Salt Lake City on April 9, 1931. He married the love of his life, Virginia (Jinny) Hoggan, in June of 1952. They spent nearly 68 years together until her death in 2020.

Kent attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and later graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, the family moved to Venice, California where he attended graduate school and worked for Hughes Aircraft.

With three children (and a fourth on the way) the family moved back to Utah, settling in Holladay in 1958. Kent and Jinny’s fifth child was born in 1967.

During his career, Kent also worked for Litton Industries, co-founded ComTel Inc., and retired from TRW Inc. in 1997.

Kent enjoyed many hobbies during his retirement including skiing, photography, computers, and golf.

Kent is survived by his five children, Randall, Shari Knighton (Clark), Alan, Shawna, and Tricia; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Ronald, Brian, and Roger Wright. He was preceded in death by his wife Jinny Wright and parents Melvin B. and Dorothy L. Wright.

No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life for Kent and Jinny will be held when it is safe for friends and family to gather.

Guestbook/Condolences

I'm very sorry for your loss. Kent was a great man. He loved his grandchildren. He took my son under his wing; that kindness will not be forgotten.

I'm sorry for your loss. Uncle Kent was always quick with a smile. I will miss the annual Christmas cards that your mom and dad did for so many years. I'm looking forward to the day that we can get together to celebrate both Jinny and Kents life. Let me know how I can help.

- Greg Wright

Really sorry to learn of Kent's passing. He was such a great inspiration and leader for his family. Even though I only knew him for a short time, he had a large impact on my life. He was a strong example of what a father should be and I will hold on to the many stories he shared with me. Until we meet again-
