1934 ~ 2025
Darrell Crabtree Thomas, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jenkyn Kesler Thomas and Afton Crabtree Thomas.
Darrell grew up on Harvard Avenue in Salt Lake City, where he enjoyed the company of many childhood friends, including Keith Olsen, Bill Nesbit, Russel Poulson, Ronald Hansen, and Kenny Genolus.
He proudly served in the Army National Guard, completing active-duty assignments in Temple, Texas during the Berlin Crisis for one year, and in Arkansas for six months. He also attended annual two-week training sessions at Camp Williams and participated in boxing during his service.
The youngest of seven children, Darrell was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy, Betty, Lois, Marion, Louise, and his brother Jenkyn (Jay).
Darrell married Collett Porter on February 19, 1954, and together they had five sons: Keith PorterThomas (Carol), Daniel PorterThomas, Darin PorterThomas (Connie), Farrell PorterThomas, and Brett PorterThomas. After their divorce, Darrell married Evelyn Diane Ellingsworth (Tead) on March 20, 1969, and they welcomed one daughter, Diane Ellingsworth Thomas Galpin.
Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings, and many dear friends. He is survived by his six children, sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Darrell will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country, and the friendships he cherished throughout his life.
