Darrell Jay Tripp, born on October 23, 1934, to Clarence Jay and Mae Fox Tripp, returned to his Heavenly Father on July 31, 2024.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kaye Tripp, and his children: Paul (Shelly), Ron (Michele), Sheri (Bart), Kim (Eric), and foster daughter Corrina. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, with one great-grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Darrell was a natural-born leader and truly lived a life of example and service to others. His journey began in humble and difficult circumstances, where he learned at a young age to be responsible and developed a deep sense of duty and commitment. Drafted into the Army, he served his country with honor for six years, an experience that shaped his strong character and unwavering sense of responsibility. His faith was a cornerstone of his life; as a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in various roles including bishop and family service missionary, always offering a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need.

For 34 years, Darrell worked at Utah Power & Light, where he held several job titles: groundman, lineman, substation mechanic, relay technician, and several management positions. He retired as the Salt Lake City substation manager and was known for his integrity and hard work. After retirement, it didn’t take him long to begin building his own dream home in West Jordan. He was extremely gifted and could do anything—he built two other homes and crafted numerous basements for his children, always putting family first. He even became a bricklayer just to keep busy. He earned the name “Bish” because he was also a bishop during this time. His hands were never idle, even creating his first boat from a kit that was gifted by his wife.

Darrell was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. His competitive spirit shone through in his love for sports, from basketball at Liberty Wells Stake to softball leagues throughout his life. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, loved camping at China Meadows, boating at Lake Powell, snow skiing, water skiing, horseback riding, and fishing at Flaming Gorge. These activities were not just hobbies but ways to connect with his family and nature, creating countless cherished memories. He loved his family very much and enjoyed family gatherings, especially if there was ice cream.

One of Darrell's greatest joys was marrying his love and eternal companion, Kaye. They met in 1953 at a church roadshow. Dating was a slow process as Kaye’s mother had some house rules, and Darrell, being the gentleman that he was, obeyed these rules to a “T.” Shortly after her turning 18, they got married on October 25, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. Darrell really grew up with a great group of friends all from the same neighborhood; in fact, all his close neighborhood friends married young ladies from the same neighborhood. All these couples and their children remain friends today. Their love story is one of deep devotion and enduring commitment. Those who knew him would say he was a golf fanatic, but only a few knew about his love for dance. A great passion of his was square dancing with Kaye. Their love for dance took them to venues from Lagoon to Saltair, where they danced with joy and grace, a true reflection of their harmonious partnership.

Darrell Jay Tripp will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, hard work, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew him. Darrell's life was a beacon of light and love, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Special thanks go to Aplus Hospice, especially Shyann and Nurse Stefanie, for their compassionate care and support during Darrell's final days. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort and peace to Darrell and his family.

Funeral services will be held on August 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with a viewing prior from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. There will also be a viewing on August 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Both the viewings and the funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 12353 South 600 East, Draper, Utah. Interment will follow after services at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah.

Dear Kaye and Family,
We are so grateful to have known Darrell during his “Bish” years in West Jordan. He was always so kind, a great leader and example, and he and Kaye shared their warmth with everyone. He was a wonderful Bishop, neighbor, and friend. I will always remember when he and Kaye sneaked up some Diet Coke to some of us when we were camp leaders.
With Love, Gene and Kim Player

I didn't know Bro. Tripp very well but he was assigned as my Home Teacher when I first moved into his West Jordan Ward. He came faithfully every month . I had only been there a short time when I was able to remove some lawn from a church in my former Stake that was being torn down. It was a tricky Labor Day removing the grass in the morning, hauling it to my new home in the afternoon. Brother Tripp organized the Elders Quorum and helped me to get it all laid the same day. What a huge help. I will never forget how helpful he was to me. ❤️
