Interment to Follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery

Our sweet, kind, wife, mother, grandmother, grandma-great, sister, and friend Della Rae Hampton Peterson left this world to join her loving husband of 71 years on March 27, 2024, at the age of 90.

Della Rae was born in Marysvale, Utah on July 4, 1933, among all the fireworks to Charles Hampton and Una Christina Dorius. Her family moved to Redmond, Utah when she was a young girl and that is where she grew up. She met and later married her eternal companion Neldon H. Peterson on January 15th, 1953. They were together for 71 precious years. She spent many years in the banking industry working the graveyard shift so she could be at home when her girls came home from school. When her girls were older, she moved to days working in customer service.

She loved to sew and in her early years joined a young girl's sewing group where she learned the skill of hand embroidery. She continued to enjoy embroidery and sewing throughout her life and shared this amazing gift with others by making them dish towels, pillowcases, barbie doll clothes, and quilts, and made clothes for her 4 girls.

It was important for her to have her family together and enjoy many holidays with each other. She was famous for her applesauce cookies, Easter cupcakes, potato salad, and Christmas divinity. She enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers and making it one of the nicest yards on the block. She made her house a home. Her yard and her home were her pride and joy. She liked sitting outside in front of the garage enjoying the fresh air and watching the quail family that took residence in her bushes every year. One of her passions was collecting glass birds, bells, and teacups, which brought her much joy.

She enjoyed going to hockey games with her husband and family and did so for many years. She especially loved ringing the cowbell when the team scored a goal. She also loved to go camping and she loved to travel and went on many trips with her family and friends.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed serving in the primary and Relief Society. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and the power of prayer.

Della Rae is survived by her 3 daughters, Adri Ann Wootton (Doug), Michelle Jensen (Chris), Sandy Doxey (Scott), 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and a sister-in-law Sharleen Heard Pope. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Neldon, her daughter Kayleen Jimenez, a great-grandson, Coen Miller, and many other family members.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13th, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the LDS Church house 915 East 9045 South Sandy Utah. A viewing will be held on Saturday at the ward from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road Sandy, Utah.
