Our sweet, beloved Mother, Dolores Joy Jacobsen, passed away suddenly on Wednesday,
August 28, 2024 at the age of 88. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother and friend to all.

Dolores was born on October 5, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to her sweet German mother, Freda
and father, John Orvel Phillips. She was an only child and loved deeply by her parents. She
moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, with her parents when she was 8 years old.

She attended Irving Junior High School and East High School in Salt Lake City. She graduated
from the University of Utah with a degree in History.

In 1956, she met Paul Roland Jacobsen on a double date, and they were soon engaged. They
were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 13, 1956.

In 1967, she moved with her husband and young family to England and lived there for 3 years.
These were some of the happiest years of her life! She loved all things British, visited many
historical sites and cities throughout Europe, and created life-long friendships.

Dolores loved to travel, taking many cruises. She instilled in her children a great love of
traveling. She loved to shop and she loved a great bargain!! She loved to read and she loved
history. She loved Christmas and having the family all gathered together on Christmas Eve. It
was always extremely important to her. She loved to decorate her home and welcome
everyone there.

Her favorite job was working as a tour guide at the Brigham Young Farmhouse at This Is The
Place Monument. She thoroughly enjoyed giving tours there dressed in period costume.

Her family meant everything to her. She took exceptional care of her special needs son, Mark,
always concerned for his welfare.

She was a lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served
in many callings in the Relief Society and the Primary.

One of her greatest qualities was her patience and compassion for others. She was always
kind to everyone, accepting everyone without judgment.

She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her parents, her eldest son, Jeffrey, and a great-grandson, Milo Joon.

She is survived by Paul Jacobsen and her children, Lynda (Ken) White, Lisa (Marty) Atwood,
Mark Jacobsen, and Jennie Milburn. 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Jantzen, Marissa, Andy, Nick,
Skyler, Sterling, Darius, Trei; and 8 great-grandchildren: Kayden, Addie, Shiloh, Blair, Legend,
Annaliese, Waverly and Mia.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 6, 2024 at Larkin Mortuary, 3688 West 12600
South, Riverton, Utah. Viewing beginning at 10:30 a.m. and funeral services beginning at noon.
She will be laid to rest at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.

I’m a friend of Lynda and Ken from when I lived in Madison, WI. In fact, I got her a job working at the Wisconsin State Capitol in my office.

While I never had a the pleasure of meeting Dolores, I remember Lynda speaking fondly of her mother. She must have liked to smile, Lynda had to have learned that from her.

May your family cherish the many fond memories and remember that families are forever.

Dolores served in the Cottonwood 4th Ward Relief Society as a teacher and visiting teaching supervisor when I was Relief Society president. She was always well prepared and organized, eager to do her best. She was one of the sweetest and gentlest people I have known, and she loved her family deeply. May you cherish all your memories of her.

I am so sorry to hear this. I just found out. She was such a sweet lady, and I was happy to call her grandmother as a young young child. I could still hear her voice in my head and see her face.
