Tamky Ding Yang

1938 ~ 2017

Tamky Yang\s ancestry was from Guangdong Province China. He was born in Hanoi Vietnam. He was a formidable player in the varsity basketball team and played percussion in the school band. After graduating in Chemistry from Hanoi Teaching University, he helped to create a Chinese Middle School where he became principal, and then later worked for the Department of Transportation.

During his school years, he met Lana Chau. They eventually married and started a family. In 1980, Tamky came to America with his wife and children as political refugees, and settled down in Salt Lake City. With a solid educational background, Tamky quickly graduated from Utah Technical College with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and worked for several firms as a fabrication technician.

Tamky loved life and was ever hospitable. He stayed in touch with former classmates all over the world. He was gregarious, humorous, and always enjoyed a hardy conversation. He was also a prolific and generous artist, and enjoyed drawing, painting, and Chinese calligraphy. To a great extenthis children inherited his appreciation for and enjoyment of the arts.

Tamky was also an excellent father. He raised children who all completed college, with degrees in Business Management, Architecture, Interior Design and Communications Technology. He was also a loving grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He made sure he and Grandma lived as close to them as possible so they could spend quality time with them almost daily.

In recent years Tamky's health declined. With his wife by his side, he continued to be a cooperative patient to his doctor, and battled his illnesses courageously until the end. On Friday, March 10, 2017 at 78 years old he succumbed and peacefully passed away at home. Tamky is survived byhis dear wife, Lana; son, Swen; son, Tang; daughter-in-law, Le; granddaughter, Sienna; granddaughter, Olivia; grandson, Quinten; daughter, Ann; son-in-law, Mehdi; and son, Victor.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 9:00-9:45am with services beginning 10:00am at Larkin Mortuary, followed by Graveside at Salt Lake City Cemetery at 11:30am.
