1945 ~ 2025
ELIZABETH NEMELKA SLOAN (AKA BETH)
AGE 80
Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 31st, 2025.
Beth was born on May 20th, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Nephi Nemelka and Gayle Cotteral. When she was born, she had 6 older brothers, who said “SEND HER BACK SHE JUST MESSED UP OUR BASEBALL TEAM.” Little did they know she would eventually play basketball and baseball better than some of them. Except for her brother Dick, she couldn’t out do him!
Two little brothers were added to the family (John and Joe), so Beth was treated like a QUEEN WITH MANY KNIGHTS having those 8 brothers around her.
Beth married Ronald LeRoy Westerman, February 5th, 1965, with her 8 brothers as her bridesmaids. All the women loved coming through the line to get all the hugs and kisses. During her marriage to Ron, she was blessed with 2 wonderful daughters, Kimberly and Rebecca. Beth and Ron later divorced.
Beth then married Jimmie R Sloan on March 13, 2003, in Las Vegas, NV with Kim, Dennis, Becky, Gary and Dick sitting on Jim’s side telling him no give backs.
Beth was given the name Elizabeth after her grandmother but went by Beth because it was shorter to spell in kindergarten. Beth graduated from West High School in 1963 and left with great memories and friends.
Beth enjoyed playing all sports, but when she was young, she especially loved playing football with her brothers. Since no one was allowed to tackle her, she always made lots of touchdowns. She played basketball and softball at school and was on church teams as well. She loved watching football, and her favorite team was always the Denver Broncos. She also enjoyed participating in Fantasy Football with her brother Dick’s children—Steven, Cary, Rhett, and many others—and her grandson Daxton, who often helped (and let’s be honest usually did most of the work) to help her win.
Beth loved to fish and bake in the sun. When they went fishing at Flaming Gorge, she would ask Jim to watch her line so she could sleep and bake in the sun. On one of their trips, she caught a 24lb Mac and had it mounted. She was very proud of that, and it hung proudly in her bedroom. Derek, one of the grandsons took it to hang on his wall.
Beth loved movies, especially Comedies, and could watch them all day long. She always told us if she could work a remote control when she was old, she would be happy, and she was. When Beth went to the theater to see a comedy, her grandkids never liked sitting right next to her because her laugh was anything but quiet, and it often had everyone else laughing too. Still, they loved going with her because she was just as entertaining as the movie itself. Beth’s laugh was truly contagious, and to know her was to love her. Beth loved playing games, and we played whenever we had the chance. Her favorite was Hand and Foot. Playing games were some of the best family times together.
Beth was a wonderful example to everyone around her, loving her family and friends deeply. She was always there for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showing up to celebrate every important milestone and cheering them on with love, and pride. Her fun, outgoing personality shone brightly all the way to the end of her precious life. We will miss her dearly.
Left Broken Hearted is her two daughters Kim (Mark) Nelson, Rebecca (Gary) Mills, two stepson’s Justin Sloan, & Dustin Sloan, a son in law, more like a son for over 30 years Dennis Holt (Cindy Holt), 7 Grandchildren, Derek (Shandi) Holt, Kelsey (Dawon) Gilgen, Tyler (Katie) Chorn, Brandon (Kirsten) Mills, McKenzie (David) Westwood, Haley Mills, Daxton (Jenny Gomez) Sloan. 13 Great Grandchildren, Dante, Aaliya, Paisley, Sophia, Dakota, Karsyn, Zayden, Kash, Mason,Maila, Marley, Emma, Neveah and one granddaughter on the way. 2 Brothers, Mike (Gloria) Nemelka, John (Marie) Nemelka. Many Nieces, nephews and Friends.
Meeting her in Heaven is her husband Jim, mother, father, 7 brothers Carl, Tony, Duane, Mark, Joe, Larry, Dick. Her Aunt Betty whom she loved dearly and many other dear Aunts and uncles. 3 Grandchildren Kaylynn Holt, Devin Holt, Kyle Sloan and other nieces and nephews.

It’s so difficult to lose your “ Mom”! She was feisty and so much fun. She was made from the same fabric as your Grandma Gail.
I’m sure your family will carry on the same fun traditions you had with her.
She will want you to live your life with happiness and enthusiasm.
Sending much love,
Kay Wood and family.

Beth you were my bestest friend. I have so many memories of our escapades together. You were always there no matter what crazy thing was happening in my life. Your infectious smile and laugh radiated out to everyone. Working with you was a joy. You taught me how to use the computer and how to swear. They both went together. You are my champion and mentor. It was an honor and a privilege to be your friend. Say hi to Celia and I will be up soon to laugh again with you. Kimmie & Becky if you need anything please let me know. Love you all. Cindy
