It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Fredrick Dale Plummer Jr., who died peacefully on December 25,2024 at the age of 90.

Dale was born on March 27, 1934, in Fort Wayne, Alan County, Indiana to Fredrick Dale Plummer Sr and Helen Madonna Finfrock.

Dale grew up in Fort Wayne, and Syracuse, Indiana, where he graduated from Syracuse High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1952 – 1958. He was also a member of the Utah Air National Guard from April 1975 through August 1995. During his time in the United States Navy, Dale served aboard the USS Valley Forge and fought in the Korean conflict where he was wounded by gunfire. In addition, he witnessed firsthand the courage and sacrifices of those around him. Though he rarely spoke of the hardships or dangers he faced, it was clear that his time in the Navy profoundly shaped his character, instilling in him a sense of duty, discipline, and respect for others that he carried throughout his life. We are deeply proud of his service and sacrifices to defend our country. His military experience helped mold him into the man we loved and admired—strong, resilient, and unwavering in his beliefs. His legacy of service, sacrifice, and honor continue to inspire all who knew him.

After his service in the Navy, Dale’s career at the telephone company spanned nearly four decades. It began as a cable splicer at Indiana Bell Telephone Company. His technical expertise and problem-solving skills quickly became evident. Over the years, Dale expanded his role to include residential and commercial installation and repair. His dedication and leadership abilities led to his final position as a Central Office Electrical Engineer. In addition, Dale serves many years as a Chief Union Steward. This role underscored the respect among his peers and his advocacy for workers’ rights. Through his decades of service, Dale was known for his reliability, technical proficiency, and strong sense of responsibility. His ability to adapt and grow in a rapidly changing industry helped him navigate the many transformations in telecommunications. Dale’s career culminated in his retirement from US West Telephone Company in March of 1996, after a successful tenure defined by hard work, a commitment to excellence, and a genuine desire to serve his company and his community. It was marked by remarkable growth, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his work.  

As a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dale regularly participated in church and temple service, prayer, and scripture study, finding comfort and strength in his relationship with God. His unwavering faith helped him through difficult times and was a source of peace and hope for those who knew him. His love for his family was deeply intertwined with his faith. He worked hard to teach and pass down his beliefs to his children and grandchildren, encouraging them to live purposefully and follow the Savior’s teachings. Dale was a man who found great joy in serving others, whether in his community, church, or family. His service was always quiet and selfless, motivated by a deep desire to follow the example of Christ. His life was a testament to his firm belief in faith, hope, and charity. Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort in the knowledge that his faith has led him to eternal peace. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering belief in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Dale was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor throughout his life. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved spending time with family, gardening, and home repair. He also enjoyed finding unique stones and gems, making jewelry, and watching his children and grandchildren thrive and grow.

Dale’s kindness was simple yet profound — whether it was a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or just a smile to brighten someone's day. He touched hearts with his unwavering generosity, and his spirit of positivity and joy will be profoundly missed by all.

Dale is survived by his eight children, Kimberly Ann Roberts, Timothy Allen (Teresa), Lynne Allison Coster, Cynthia Ann Roberts, Jennifer Kay (Steve) Goodchild, Thomas Andrew (Jody), Su’Ann LaNez Kauer, Ruth Louise (Shane) Jeffery; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren, as well as brother James E. Plummer. He was preceded in death by his wife Melba Lanez Larkin, former spouse Harriett Joan Traster; parents, and stepsister Rosemary Rudisill.

The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at The Ridge Memory Care facility and Canyon’s Home Care and Hospice team for the compassionate care provided to our father. You all showed incredible professionalism, warmth, and respect for his dignity and comfort. Your support extended not only to him but also to our family during a difficult and emotional time. Please know that your efforts have made a lasting impact, and we will never forget the comfort and peace you helped bring to our family.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah.

Visiting and viewing will be held from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Services to follow beginning at 2:00 pm.
