Garth Jones "Pete" Robinson passed away April 27, 2024 due to natural causes in St. George, Utah while on a golfing trip with his best friend Melvin VanWagoner. He was born to Byron Albert and Mabel Lizona Robb Robinson on October 21, 1942 in his family home in Paragonah, Utah.

Pete married his junior high school sweetheart, Kay Carman, on March 5, 1962, later to take his wife and four daughters to be sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. He joined the Navy and served on the Floyd B Parks DD 884 Destroyer from 1960 - 1964. After the Navy they settled in Salt Lake City, Utah where they raised four daughters and a foster son.

Pete was a firefighter for the Salt Lake City Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as a captain in 1997. After retirement he worked for the Hogle Zoo where he proudly kept the train up and running for 13 years. He also held many jobs around the city driving freight and making deliveries.

Pete was raised to love and appreciate the outdoors and he passed that love along to his children. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and anything in the mountains. He helped raise four very independent girls. He taught us how to fish, pitch a tent, start a fire, cut wood, hammer a nail, throw a ball, change a tire and we weren’t afraid to get dirty. We learned to “do it right the first time”. He taught us, by example, how to serve. Dad loved family gatherings and was always up for a game, his latest obsession was Farkle and he would squeeze as many games out of you as he could. Pete loved his family and looked forward to seeing his kids and grandkids.

You could find Pete many nights eating dinner at La Hacienda, grabbing a burger and ice cream from The Hook and Ladder or a drink from Maverick.

Pete was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and happily served those around him as a high councilman, a bishop and in many other callings for the Cannon 9th Ward. Dad was a man of service.
Pete leaves behind his sweetheart of 62 years, Katherine “Kay”; children Deborah (Myles) Howard, Shelley (Spencer) Koehler, Lynette (Layne) Hilton and Christine (John) Jongejan; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved sister, Audrey Mayoh. Pete also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews that considered him a second dad. Preceded in death by his son David Allison; his parents; his brothers Antone and Milton and sister Jayne. We know the reunion in Heaven with his dad, who he never got to know; with his brother that he lost at a young age; his in-laws who he considered his second parents and all other beloved family, was truly a sight to be seen.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 6:00-8:00pm at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 3 at 11:00am at the Cannon 9th Ward meetinghouse, 1250 W. 1400 S. Salt Lake City. A public viewing will be held an hour prior to the start of the services.

Fond memories of Garth and Milton and the family as members of the Twentieth Ward in Salt lake in the 50's. Milton and I were in the same Troop of the BSA, Number 29. Wonderful family. Mel Van Wagoner, a neighbor down the street. Those were wonderful times. Our love and condolences to the Robinson family.
