Listen to Obituary
Gary Emeral Brown, our loving and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather and husband passed away on November 28, 2025. Gary was born to Clara and Ed on May 10, 1930. He grew up off 3900 South just below 20th East on what was affectionately known as the Bar-B. There he grew up causing mischief with his brothers Gordon and Wayne and his cousins that lived nearby. Those friendships continued throughout his life. He attended and graduated from Granite High School.
Gary served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. Before entering the service, he met and dated Marilyn Price, whom he married on August 15, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised their children Robert, Becky, Brian and Gordon. After the passing of Marilyn he met and married Reta Clark, whom he spent the next 26 years with.
After marrying Marilyn, he started working for International Harvester. There he achieved several awards as a very successful salesman and later became the Branch Manager of the location in Salt Lake City. During this time he picked up playing golf and became quite the golfer having won several trophies. One of his great joys in life was playing golf with his kids and their spouses.
Gary was always involved in the lives of his kids, whether that be sports, scouting or their lives in general. He was always asking if he could help even when it became obvious that he just couldn’t do it anymore.
Next to golf, Gary’s other passion was for the outdoors. Well into his 90’s he continued to hunt and fish. He shared this passion with his sons and grandsons that created many unforgettable memories. He lived by the motto “don’t let the old man in” which kept him active and the reason for his long life.
Gary is survived by his wife Reta, son Robert and wife Dixie, daughter Becky and husband Craig, son Brian and wife Lori, son Gordon and wife Tiffany. Also 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
Guestbook/Condolences
Gary was one of a kind. Always quick to tease with a joke or have something to say to bring the room to laughter. Some of my favorite childhood memories are being at your parents home. When Scott and I decided to get married your dad took Scott aside and told him he better be good to me or he would have a wrath of men to deal with haha. Scott shared that with me the other day when I told him of his passing. I was so sad to hear that his health had declined so fast but am happy now that I got to see him one last time a couple months ago. Although he didn’t know me just being able to give him a hug meant the world to me. I won’t be able to attend tomorrow but thought I would write to just say how special of a man your dad was and send much love to all of you.

Dear cousins,
I am so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. I think we all thought he would be the brother to live to be 100! Take care of each other through this. I dread the day but know that death comes and is most certainly better than languishing. My heart is with you all.
