  • George Hinckley Badger, age 90, passed away on January 12, 2021 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long battle with cancer. George was born April 1, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Franklin Badger and Afton Hinckley Badger. The oldest of four children, he grew up in Holden, Utah,
where his father was a rancher and farmer. It was there, he learned the value of hard work, responsibility and dependability. Educated in Fillmore, Utah, he graduated from Millard High School in 1948, where he was elected Senior class President. After high school graduation, in September 1948, George enrolled at Brigham Young University. He also attended Utah State Agricultural College. George served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from October 1950 to 1952, in the Eastern Canadian Mission where he labored in the Province of Québec.

Upon returning from his mission in October 1952, George enrolled again at Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a minor in History. It was at BYU that he met LaJuana Isakson, the love of his life. They were married on May 7, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. In September, 1954, one week following graduation, George was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served his tour of duty at Fort Ord, California. Following his discharge, George and LaJuana moved to Salt Lake City where he attended the University of Utah Law School. They bought a small home on Ridgedale Lane, where George assisted in constructing the Grant Sixth Ward chapel. In October, 1961, George graduated from the University of Utah Law School with a LLD degree. He worked well into his eighties as a business entrepreneur. In November 1961, to accommodate their growing family, George and LaJuana moved into a new home on the Avenues. There they lived for 56 years and raised their five children. George and LaJuana had many beloved friends and neighbors in their avenues community. George was a master gardener. Memorial Day was always “planting day”. George’s yard was his masterpiece for LaJuana.

George devoted thousands of hours of service to his Church. He was a leader in Sunday School, Boy Scouts, and worked as a Stake Missionary. His favorite assignment was serving in the Salt Lake Temple with LaJuana. He developed life-long friends there, which he cherished until his death.
He loved exercising and you could find him every morning at the Deseret Gym until it closed, and then Steiner Aquatic Center. He valued the many friends he made there. He was passionate about his causes, a hard worker, readily made friends, and a resilient man. George was adventurous. Water skiing at Lake Powell, deer hunting in the fall, BYU football games, and snowmobiling in the mountains were passions he loved sharing with his family. LaJuana was the love of his life. Together they formed a companionship that withstood life’s challenges. He missed her deeply after she
passed in 2012 and longed for the day when they would be reunited. He is preceded in death by his wife LaJuana Isakson, son Layne Isakson Badger, and grandson, Travis Karl Badger, parents Franklin and Afton Hinckley Badger, sister Rosemary Badger Goodwin, and her husband, Glenn. George is survived by his children: Karl Franklin (Cindie), LeAnn Stamos (Mike), David George (Marcia) and GR (Julie), 12 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, and, by his siblings, Frank Alonzo Badger and Jesse Badger Marker.

The family would like to thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice for their professionalism and expertise. We would especially like to thank Heidi Lawrence Woker, RN, and Jennifer Miles, CNA for their devoted and loving care to our father.

    Guestbook/Condolences

He taught me, Jessie and Rosemary to work hard and never quit until the task was done. His example of hard work and caring for his family left a very favorable impression on me. He worked hard and he played hard. He met the challenges and obstacles of life head on and never backed down. He was a good brother, father, and friend. I will miss him dearly. Lonnie Badger

What a dear mother and father you had. George has been missed ever since he moved out of our Avenues neighborhood. Many years of great conversations with such a kind and sharp and always "dapper" man. My heart goes out to each one of you family members, especially LeAnn who I have known for many years. I was also acquainted with Layne too. There will be great reunions for those in your family who have already entered their "heavenly" home. Our deepest condolences to all of you. What great parents you had.

With all our love, The Nunley Family

I always loved George's greetings in the temple as we served in the Salt Lake Temple together. My favorite was as he always mentioned and asked about his grandson Peter who is married to my daughter Mallory and there little boys. George will be greatly missed.

George was my late wife’s uncle. I only met him a few times, but he was always warm and cordial. My condolences to his family.

George was always bigger than life to me. He had more stamina, endurance and capacity to pursue his visions than most of us. There was an air of excitement with him at the helm. He was kind, helpful and generous to both family and friends and a devoted family man. May he rest in peace. Jessie Marker, his youngest sister.

We so love Brother Badger. We worked with him at The Salt Lake Temple,He shared his feelings about the loss of his lovely companion, LaJuana. How he missed her!
We know he is with her now. Bro. Badger gave us excellent counsel about “cherishing” each other. He had a beautiful speaking voice, we both admired and respected him. Until we meet again Brother George. M&M Gardner

George and I were fellow ordinance workers at the Salt Lake Temple. That’s where I first met him. We became fast friends. It was easy to be a friend to George. He always had that warm radiant smile, a kind word for others, generous in his complements, and genuine in his love. I love George. He made me feel like I was important in his life and his best friend. Such a wonderful gift. He was truly a most happy fellow. He was happy because he loved the Lord and followed him and the Lord loved him. His countenance radiated that love. That’s why we love being around him. Because he loved the Lord, he could more fully love his sweet wife, his children and his grandchildren. We are both widowers. So We understood what it meant to be separated from our sweet wives. But now he is joyfully with his sweet wife, having been sealed in the Holy Temple for time and all eternity never to be apart again. To his family and friends he left a wonderful legacy to follow.I am a better man for having known my friend George Badger.
    With love to all

I was saddened to hear about George’s passing. We grew up as schoolmates at Millard High School in Fillmore, Utah. I remember him as a witty, happy person who was a friend to everyone. I remember walking to Seminary with a group of our friends. He served as the Senior President and did a good job!
It is interesting that we were neighbors on the Avenues and our children became our friends. I loved Luanna and spent wonderful times working with her in the Relief Society. I will always treasure my memories with their family.
This is a hard time for your family. Please know that I think of you and am praying for you!

    Hello Badger family!!!

It was great to "attend" George's service yesterday. Watching the service brought back so many great memories of your family. I have known David and the Badger family longer than anyone. I believe the Badger family moved to 18th Ave./Northmont Way before Rex Williams and his family.

One of my fondest memories was while I lived back East for over 35 years, was to come back several times a year and attend the 16th ward. I hardly missed a Sunday, during that time and George was always about the first one to greet me and we often would sit next to each other in then High Priest Group. I always looked forward to socializing with George. He kept me up to date what was going on with him and his family. George has to be about one of the nicest and friendliest guys I have ever known. I really appreciated his friendship through all these years.

One of my fondest memories I had of the 16th ward was teaching Sunday School to G.R. and his friends and associates their senior year of high school. George would tell me what G.R. and his friends were up to and it is amazing what so many of them have gone on and done with their lives.

George definitely was one of a kind and I know he will be greatly missed. I just wished we could have been all there together. We could have spent hours swapping stories about Karl, Leann, David, Lyane and G.R.
All the best to your family.

I was saddened to learn of George’s passing this morning. We lived next to each other for 25+ years and George and I spoke often about kids, gardens and adventures. (He particularly liked to tell me about his motorcycle tours with Lujanna.). When George moved a few years ago we kept up with occasional calls and, while he was healthy, I would get him tickets to shows like Riverdance or some of the Broadway productions we brought to the Capitol and Eccles Theaters. I liked George and will miss knowing he is nearby. My condolences to the family and his friends.

GR....It is with deep sadness reading about the passing of your father in this mornings paper. So many memories of your family over the 30+ years. I have seen the many, many changes.... I loved your father he was definitely “old school”. Even though we would meet at Christmas for only for 30 minutes for the Badger Family Christmas party it has been a blessing knowing your father’s love for your mother. My thoughts are with Karl, LeAnn, David and you at this time of loss. May you all find peace, joy and love with your parents reunion in heaven.
