Listen to Obituary

George Williamson, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy, Utah, on April 6, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and loved ones.

George was born in Northwich, Cheshire, England, on October 13, 1937, to George and Annie Williamson. He lived a life full of adventure, wit, and boundless curiosity. He served three years in the Royal Air Force. In 1962, at the age of 25, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Trish) Slater. They were sealed in the London Temple and shared a loving 63 years of marriage. Together they began a new chapter emigrating to America in 1964. George was the second person to be hired at Deseret Mutual Benefits Association and retired from there in 2002 after many years of service.

Always fascinated by airplanes, he joined the Air Cadets instead of Boy Scouts and at 16, earned his aviator glider license. Later in life, he achieved his solo pilot license, fulfilling a dream that had taken flight in his youth. George could identify any aircraft by the sound of its engine and loved nothing more than attending airshows, often announcing details about the planes before the emcee had a chance. He knew everything there is to know about World War II airplanes. His love for the skies was rivaled only by his love of the Wild West. George was a lifelong fan of Western movies and built a cherished collection of cowboy memorabilia over the years. George’s passions also included music, classic cars, cats, and Manchester United football (footie). Adventurous at heart, he took up skiing at the age of 40. He took skydiving off his adventure list after his first attempt, which ended with a shattered ankle. From there, skydiving remained firmly on his "no thanks" list.

Honest to a fault, George told the truth even when it was hard—and he taught his children to do the same. He instilled in them a deep sense of integrity and an unwavering compassion for all living beings, especially animals. He was endlessly creative, fiercely intelligent, and—above all—hilarious. Anyone who met George would remember his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. His legacy lives on in the laughter, integrity, and kindness he inspired in those who knew and loved him.

George was a devoted husband, father to four children and grandfather to nine. He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Paige, Ian (Joshua), and Hollie (Rodney) Williamson, grandchildren Alexandra (Robert), Christian (Elise), Katherine, and Elizabeth (Branston) Andersen, Maxmillian and Rachel Boehme, Camron (Rebecca), Skyler, and Elizabeth Brown, and brother Terrence Williamson. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nichol and nephew Ian.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 12:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, UT 84092. The service will be livestreamed via Zoom and can be accessed by clicking the "Watch Services" button above.

My Uncle George was so special to me. We didn’t spend as much time together as I would have liked but every moment we did was full of fun and laughter and I loved him very much. When my brother died George flew over to the UK straight away to be with us and I will never forget at his funeral him squeezing my hand when I became distressed at a particularly painful moment. He was alway kind. My only wish would be that we had spent more time together. Rest in peace Uncle George. I will treasure our memories forever. Xxxxxxx
