Listen to Obituary

Harold Collins Bowers, II (“Collie”) passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in his home at The Cottages of Tucson. Collie was born on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Harold Collins Bowers and Leonore Elizabeth Twiggs. He graduated from East High School and served honorably in the US Army for two years as a Communications Specialist. During his military service, Collie received a Rifle Sharpshooter award and a Good Conduct Metal.

Collie attended two years at the University of Utah before joining his father at Bowers and Son – a local home and office furniture business that Collie ran until 1983. In 1966, Collie married Janet Mary Reading.Together they raised two children, Harold “Tad” C. Bowers, III (married to Melanie Bowers) and Mary Melynda Bowers Burns (married to Ron Burns). Janet passed in 2006. Collie has six grandchildren: Chad, Megan, Madilynn, Payton, Taylor and Jack. He also has five great grandchildren: Brylee, Ariya, Ozzy, Jaxson and Elizabeth. Collie married Marla Mott-Smith in December of 2008. They enjoyed extensive travel, volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity and always a great meal with a glass of fine Merlot. They resided in Tucson, Arizona at the time of his passing.

Collie was an incredible businessman. After the sale of Bowers and Son Office Furniture, he started HCB Investment, Inc. and was self-employed as an independent contractor representing various plumbing products across the western United States. Janet would frequently travel with him to trade shows, pulling in crowds with her “Otis Spunkmeyer” cookie oven. No one could resist the smell of their fresh baked cookies!

Collie had a quiet, but charming and flirtatious personality. There were few people he didn’t consider a friend. He would throw the most marvelous Christmas parties and loved taking care of the people he employed. After retiring, Collie spent many hours volunteering at South Davis Community Hospital in Bountiful, Utah where he had made many friends while attending to Janet. In 2008, he was awarded Volunteer of the Year by the state of Utah for his time and effort spent working with the residents at the facility.

Collie is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, not to mention his devoted dog Red and his super cool cats Abby and CB.

Graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Collie’s name to your local Alzheimer’s Association.
