BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY

Helen Schmid Bassett, age 95, died on July 15, 2022. She was born in Montpelier, Idaho, May 11, 1927, daughter of John Henry Schmid and Gladys Merrill Schmid. She graduated with honors from Montpelier High School in 1945 and attended the University of Colorado.

In 1948 she married William K. Bassett and followed him in his Army and corporate careers, setting up housekeeping and raising the family in a total of 16 locales in the United States and Europe, including several years in the New York City area where her husband was involved in International sales and marketing. She was an accomplished “world traveler”, exploring much of the world with Bill. They were a devoted couple, married for 73 years. Upon retirement they moved to Sandy, UT to be near family.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was sealed with Bill and their 4 children in the Logan Temple in 1967. She served faithfully in a number of callings, including Relief Society President in each of the following locations: West Lake Village CA, Bergen County, NJ, and New Canaan, CT. She was an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple for 4 years, and completed a 5 year service mission as a greeter and hostess at the LDS Conference Center. She also served as a volunteer at the Alta View Hospital and on the board of directors of AMICUS and the Deseret Foundation.

She was beautiful in every way and greatly admired by all who served with her, her friends and associates, and especially her family to whom she was deeply devoted. She was adored by her 4 children, 14 grandchildren & 29 great grandchildren. Always cheerful, supportive and nonjudgmental, she was an example to all who knew her. As a family we aspire to emulate these beautiful attributes in our own lives. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years William K Bassett, her children: Kathleen (Lee) Sadler, South Jordan, UT; Robert W. (Joanne) Bassett, San Ramon, CA; Kristen (Tim) Micklos, Salt Lake City, UT; John C (Lisa) Bassett, Milford, CT. and her sister, Dorothy Spencer of Ogden, UT.

Guestbook/Condolences

Dear family. We are so sorry for your loss. We first met Helen and Bill when our daughter Kelly married Rick (their grandson) 16 years ago. What a lovely, lively couple. They had so much fun dancing that night away and from the tribute pictures shown, looks like they enjoyed many dances. Our priest told us it was the first time he had ever officiated at a wedding where all four sets of the couples grandparents were present. What a blessing that was for all of us. All but Bill have now passed. May all your happy, loving memories bring you and your loved ones peace and comfort.

I am so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. She was an amazing woman who I considered to be my second mother in Park Ridge and in Westlake. She will be missed!

I'm sorry I couldn't be there for the service, but we do send our love to the whole family.
