Hernan Garcia Carrasco, age 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, on Thursday, June 2nd, at the University of Utah hospital after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Hernan is survived by his parents Prospero and Cristina Garcia, his sisters Ada, Dina, Luz, and brothers Pedro and Luis, his wife Sara, his daughters Christine Latimer, and Erika Morgan, and four grandchildren, Gabriella, Sophia, Isabella, and Grayson.
Hernan was born on April 23, 1955, in Lima, Peru. As a child, he found a love for soccer and was always playing soccer with the neighborhood kids. He graduated high school from Jose de la Riva Aguero y Osmo in 1973 and went on to study Large Animal Science and Medicine at the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. While attending the university he was a member of the university's soccer team.
After graduation, he traveled to the United States to marry the love of his life, Sara Garcia. After 7 years of dating, they finally married on September 21, 1985. They went on to have two daughters, Christine, and Erika. He was a devoted husband and father. Their family was sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS Oakland Temple in 1991.
Hernan has always had a love for animals which led him to begin working as a veterinary technician and surgery coordinator for Cottonwood Animal Hospital, where he worked full-time for 28 years. He loved his job and his work family immensely. Some of his best memories were made at Cottonwood Animal Hospital.
Hernan was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family. He became a United States citizen on July 4, 1995, and was so proud to have become a US citizen. His Peruvian roots never left as he loved visiting his parents and siblings frequently. He made it a priority to teach their girls about his Peruvian culture and create memories in Peru. Family meant more to him than anything else in the world. He found joy and comfort in his faith, being a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved his Heavenly Father with all his heart.
Hernan will always be remembered for his love of life and genuine acceptance of others. He would always go out of his way to meet people and strike up a conversation to make them smile.
Hernan loved music and loved to dance and would share this love with whomever he met. He loved hosting parties and would invite all to join him in enjoying life. Hernan and Sara created a beautiful life together as they both worked hard to provide for their children. Hand in hand they made incredible sacrifices for their family and created a loving home where family and friends always wanted to gather.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 10:00 am at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 8485 South 1000 East, Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, from the hours of 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the church and on Thursday, prior to the funeral, from 9:00 - 9:45 am, also at the church.
Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah.

Hernán García Carrasco, de 67 años, falleció pacíficamente rodeado de familiares y amigos el jueves 2 de junio en el hospital de la Universidad de Utah después de una valiente batalla contra la ELA (enfermedad de Lou Gehrig).
A Hernán le sobreviven sus padres Próspero y Cristina García, sus hermanas Ada, Dina, Luz y los hermanos Pedro y Luis, su esposa Sara, sus hijas Christine Latimer y Erika Morgan, y 4 nietos, Gabriella, Sophia, Isabella y Grayson.
Hernán nació el 23 de abril de 1955 en Lima, Perú. De niño encontró el amor por el fútbol y siempre jugaba fútbol con los niños del vecindario. Se graduó de la escuela secundaria José de la Riva Agüero y Osmo en 1973 y luego estudió Ciencia y Medicina de Grandes Animales en la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. Mientras asistía a la universidad, fue miembro del equipo de fútbol de la universidad.
Después de graduarse, viajó a los Estados Unidos para casarse con el amor de su vida, Sara García. Después de 7 años de noviazgo, finalmente se casaron el 21 de septiembre de 1985. Tuvieron 2 hijas, Christine y Erika. Fue un esposo y padre devoto. Su familia fue sellada por esta vida y por toda la eternidad en el templo SUD de Oakland en 1991.

Sus raíces peruanas nunca se fueron ya que le encantaba visitar a sus padres y hermanos con frecuencia. Hizo una prioridad enseñar a sus niñas sobre su cultura peruana y crear recuerdos en Perú. La familia significaba más para él que cualquier otra cosa en el mundo. Encontró gozo y consuelo en su fe, siendo miembro de la iglesia de Jesucristo de los santos de los últimos días, y amaba a su Padre Celestial con todo su corazón.
Hernán siempre será recordado por su amor a la vida y su genuina aceptación de los demás. Siempre se esforzaba por conocer gente y entablar una conversación para hacerlos sonreír.
Hernán amaba la música y le encantaba bailar y compartiría este amor con quienquiera que conociera. Le encantaba organizar fiestas e invitaba a todos a unirse a él para disfrutar de la vida. Hernán y Sara crearon una hermosa vida juntos, ya que ambos trabajaron duro para mantener a sus hijos. De la mano hicieron sacrificios increíbles por su familia y crearon un hogar amoroso donde la familia y los amigos siempre querían reunirse.
Habrá un velorio y funeral a partir de las 9 a. m. del jueves 9 de junio de 2022. También habrá un velorio el día antes del servicio el miércoles 8 de junio de 2022, de 6 p. m. a 8 p. m.
Los servicios funerarios y de velación se llevarán a cabo en el Hillcrest Stake Center ubicado en 8485 S. 1000 E. Sandy, UT 84094.

I worked with Hernan for years at Cottonwood Animal Hospital. He was such a neat man who was always so kind and patient, especially when training new technicians. He had a wonderful sense of humor but was always calm and steady during serious times and was incredibly dependable. Hernan would light up when he was talking about his family and the joy his wife and children brought into his life. He was young at heart and shared his enthusiasm for life with everyone he met.
My thoughts are with all of his family, friends, and the many people whose lives were made better just by knowing Hernan.

Mis mas sentidas condolencias a la familia de Hernán. Fuimos compañeros de colegio y de la Promoción 1973 de la Gran Unidad Escolar (G.U.E.) José de la Riva Aguero y Osma de Chorrillos. Compartimos el viaje de promoción al Cusco. En agosto de 2012 estuvo de visita en Lima con su esposa y nos reunimos en un restaurante de Surco. Conversaba con él por el messenger, la última vez hace unos meses.
Hernán fue una gran persona, muy afectuoso con todos, muy dedicado a su familia.

Hernan was an amazing spirit I had the pleasure of working with him at cottonwood animal hospital for the past 6 years. He was so positive and happy and always had a smile for everyone he came in contact with. RIP Hernan. You are loved and will be missed by many.

Hasta hoy es imposible creer que Hernán, un ser humano lleno de luz y alegría ya no nos acompañe en esta tierra. Siempre será recordado con mucho cariño, por que fue un gran primo, sobrino, un buen hijo. Siempre llevo consigo ese niño feliz y divertido que irradiaba alegría a los demás . Hernan was a great man and will truly be remembered for being so kind and thoughtful. Always waving as he drove by or stopping to pet my cute dog (we lost in January) and giving us such good advise.
