Irvin “Alan” Pearson passed peacefully from this life on April 17, 2023, in Riverton, Utah. He was born on December 5, 1930, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Irvin Lars Pearson and Edna Mayhew Pearson, as the second of six children and the only son. He lived in Farmington, Utah, for most of his childhood. During his adolescent years, you could find him playing the saxophone, shooting, swimming (which he did very well), enjoying the outdoors, and going to Lagoon. He got his first job working at Lagoon and anytime we drove by, would mention the good times he spent there.

After graduating from Davis High School, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Clovis, New Mexico, where he met Paulita Stevenson. She became Paulita Pearson on July 8, 1952. To this union, they welcomed four beautiful children, Floyd, Jim, Christine, and Steve. After a time in New Mexico, Alan and Paulita moved to Utah and a few years later, went their separate ways.

In the early sixties, Dad met Colleen Thomas at a restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City. On August 3, 1964, they tied the knot and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ on February 3, 1966. They were joined by a son, Lon, in 1967, and purchased their home in Kearns the following year. A second son, Ron, was born in 1971. They lived in their home in Kearns until 2003 when they moved to Riverton, Utah. This was a bittersweet time as that little home held so many years of memories. After almost 50 years of marriage, Colleen passed away in December 2013.

Dad had worked at Sears and Jordan Builders as a small engine mechanic before being employed by Cottonwood Hospital where he worked in maintenance for over 20 years before he retired. He loved to tinker and saved pieces and parts of all kinds of things, just in case they could be used for some sort of creative repair work. He was always fixing up things around the house to try and make it more comfortable or convenient for his family.

Dad enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman. He had a great love of singing and in his later years, sang with the Harmonaires in his lovely tenor voice. He loved to drive and was driving right up until the day he died. He and Colleen enjoyed going on long drives and would take a road trip to New Mexico every year to visit their kids living in that area. They loved and were proud of all of their children and rather than referring to them as his, hers, and ours, it was ours, ours, and ours. For a long time, he was a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple and was a little unsure of what to do with himself when they closed for an extended period for remodeling. Eating out was one of Dad’s favorite pastimes after Colleen passed away and he was frequently the beneficiary of kind souls that would anonymously pay for his lunch, which really tickled him.

Alan is survived by his children, Floyd (Cindi), James “Jim” (Kristie), Steve (Toby), Lon (Tammy), Ron (Jennifer), Connie, Bonita “Bunny” (Gary), and Gary (Jonette). He is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Colleen, daughter, Christine (Marcos), son Johnnie and daughter Mardrene. He had seemingly countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved each and every one! We love and miss you dad, brother, grandpa, and friend!

A memorial service will be held on April 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel located at 12154 S. 3600 W., Riverton, Utah. Prior to the service, guests are welcome to visit with Alan’s family from 10 AM to 10:45 AM. A private interment service will follow.

Guestbook/Condolences

I'm very sad to see Alan leave us but look forward to the day I can meet him again. Since we moved into the 8th Ward just over 5 years ago I have always enjoyed talking with Alan at Church and other Ward events.

He is a great guy and lead a good life. I'm sure he has been very warmly greeted on the other side and united with his wife and many other friend and family members.

I will miss him.
