James Dee Mounts Sr., 61, of Sandy, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2025. Born October 26, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ransom and Gloria Dean (Kilpatrick) Mounts, Dee lived a life filled with love for his family and a passion for the simple pleasures.
Dee’s life was enriched by his love for the outdoors. He cherished time spent camping and fishing, finding solace and adventure in nature. His culinary skills were legendary, particularly his prowess on the barbecue, always ready to share his delicious creations with loved ones. He also found great joy in music and concerts, and was a devoted fan of professional wrestling. Above all, Dee cherished his family, and time spent with them. He was immensely proud of his children and deeply loved his new granddaughter, Zaya Dee, whose arrival brought him immense joy, and pride; he cherished his role as “Papa”. He married Michael Anne Mounts in Heber, Utah, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Dee was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, and his kindness and warmth touched the lives of many.
Dee is survived by his beloved wife, Michael Anne Mounts; his children, James Dee Mounts Jr. (spouse Felina), Dillan Mounts, Andee McKevitt (husband: Bobby), and Kanden Cooke; his granddaughter, Zaya Dee McKevitt; his mother-in-law, Patricia Allgier, sisters Lillian Drake, Shauna Westlund, brother Randy Mounts; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Mounts (Kilpatrick); his father, Ransom Mounts; and his sisters, Lanette Baker and Roseanna Mounts Massey.
A celebration of Dee's life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092. A viewing will start at 4:00 pm, family and friends can share memories with an open mic between 5:00 - 6:00 pm.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy passed down through generations.

I wanted to take this opportunity to say Thank You for everything you have ever done for me.

I have sat here this last week just flooded with tons of Memories and tears wishing this was all just a dream! Thank you for all you have taught me. for all the times you listened to me and supported me and never judging me. Never complained you just kept on loving. Smiling and giving the advice that I needed! rather I liked it or not! You have never guided me in the wrong direction. For always being there during my darkest days and my Brightest hour. I will always remember each day right from the start You will always be My superman! You will be forever near because you are forever in my heart!! For most of all being My Uncle. Brother Mentor and Best Friend in the entire world!! I will always look up to you and seek your heart then I will know my life will be as rich as yours!!
