Jeffery Burton Wensel
May 21, 1943 – September 2, 2024
Jeffery Burton Wensel was born on May 21, 1943, to George and Louise Wensel in Salt Lake City, Utah. At the age of four, his family moved to Bountiful, where he grew up alongside his older brother, Kent. Kent was a constant companion, teaching Jeff to play various sports. Jeff excelled in athletics, serving as the catcher for his high school baseball team and as the captain of the tennis team.
Jeff’s strong work ethic was instilled by his parents. His mother, Louise, worked tirelessly until she was 80, when she suffered a severe leg injury. His father, George, retired at 76 to care for her, demonstrating a profound commitment to family. Jeff followed their example, working as a Hod Tender and sharing stories of his time working on the Salt Lake Temple. He took great pride in recounting how he would walk the narrow walkways and polish Moroni’s feet.
Jeff transitioned to a career in sales with Souvall Brothers, where he serviced grocery and convenience stores. His dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed. When Smith’s acquired Souvall’s, Jeff was promoted to District Manager, a role in which he thrived for over 30 years. His colleagues were among his best friends.
An avid outdoorsman, Jeff, enjoyed fishing, and loved playing golf, and had the honor of playing with Johnny Miller. He took great pride in his yard and spending time tending to his garden. His love for the outdoors was a reflection of his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Jeff was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various auxiliary presidencies and as a missionary at the Family Search Center. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and decisions. Jeff was always the first to offer help to those in need, embodying the principles of compassion and service.
Jeff’s greatest love was his family. He and the love of his life Barbara were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on October 12, 1962. Together, they raised four children: Carole, Dave (Kathi), Gary (Janet), and Debi (Ken). They were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in Jeff’s heart. He remained devoted to his wife, staying by her side until his hospitalization, always inquiring about her well-being and ensuring she was cared for.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louise, his brother Kent, and his great-grandchild Jamie. His legacy of love, dedication, and service lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched. The family extends special thanks to the ICU staff at Riverton Hospital for their compassionate care.
Jeffery Burton Wensel’s life was a testament to hard work, faith, and family. His stories, lessons, and love will be cherished by all who knew him.

Guestbook/Condolences
Sincere condolences to all the Wensel family at this sad time, I am sure he received a very warm welcome from those of his loved ones on the other side of the veil. Sending love and prayers from Ireland
I first met Jeff 40 years ago during his long tenure with Smiths Food and Drug. He was always an example of collaboration, hard work and partnership and handled it with class. He was devoted to his family, his faith, and friends and truly an outstanding example to all. He will be missed by many but never forgotten!
So sorry to hear about the passing of your sweetheart . I remember him being so sweet and loving to his sweet wife Barbara. Always driving her where she needed to go,and taking care of her. God bless you Barbara and your family at this time.❤️🙏
Sorry I could not attend Jeff's funeral due to the fact that I am in the hospital. Jeff was my first supervisor when I came over from Grand Central to join the Smiths team. I will ever be grateful for his friendship and kindness and caring for me and so many others who knew him. Just a great friend and one who I look forward to being with for the eternities. Sincerely, Gil White
