We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Johney Colledge on January 30, 2025. He passed away surrounded by people that he loved.

Johney was born on February 8th, 1940, to Nancy Frances and Lester Colledge in Lehi, Utah where he had many adventures while growing up. Johney served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ontario, Canada where he met his wife, Lillian. At the end of his mission, Mission President, Thomas Monson, gave him permission to go back for her and the rest was history. They bought a house in Sandy, UT where they raised two boys, Craig and Kirk. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren also spent many holidays at the house and were very important to him.

Johney worked for the Utah Transit Authority for almost forty years where he drove city buses, ski buses and TRAX trains. In 1988, he received an award for “his professionalism and actions in time of imminent danger” when his ski bus was hit by an avalanche. He was the first driver of TRAX in Utah, and the first driver to log three million safe miles.

Johney and Lillian were happily married for over 60 years and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a trip to Hawaii which was one of the highlights of their time together. They also loved spending summer vacations at a cabin at Moon Lake where he taught the kids to catch and clean fish.

Johney enjoyed watching the Utah Jazz and recorded each game to avoid commercials. He loved reading Louis L’Amour westerns and later listening to them. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits.

He had an infectious smile and was the kindest and most caring person you could meet. He was beloved by everyone who met him and will be missed by all.

Preceded in death by his brothers Dwayne, Elroy, Lavelle, and his parents Nancy & Lester.

He is survived by his wife Lillian and their two sons Craig and Kirk (Kristen), his grandchildren Tiffany Pienezza (Joe), Jessica Coffey (Sam), Maddison Snow (Robbie), Trent Clifford (Nikki), Kyle Clifford (Mary), his great grandchildren Zenna Pienezza, Olivia Pienezza, Lilyauna Coffey, Angelly Coffey, Kenzi Byington, Ari Clifford, and Goldie Clifford, and his brothers Larry, Brent, and Jay Colledge, and his sisters Beverly Burr and Rose Abbott.

I am very sorry to learn of Johney’s passing. When I started with UTA in 1972, he was one of my trainers. We also worked together at TRAX as operators. He was a good man, and I feel privileged to have known him.

Losing a loving father is so challenging. Reading his obituary and your memories of Moon Lake, that is a fun place and a great place to have memories. May the Lord bless you and comfort you during this difficult time and may you have wonderful memory to ease your loss. You & your family are in my prayers.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Johney's passing.
He was one (probably the best one) of my trainers when I began at UTA 49 years ago this month. He remained a good friend through the years and will be missed.
