Saturday Afternoon Celebration of Life

The SunTrapp, 102 S 600 W, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

Saturday Aug 17, 2024 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Joseph Adelbert Ross, Born January 7, 1936, passed away gently and peacefully in his sleep, as he wished in the early morning of July 17, 2024. Joseph was the son of Delbert A Ross and Sarah Frances Hollinger Gentry Ross. He was predeceased by both of his parents, both of his loves, Bea and Donna, and all of his siblings, Myrtle B. Gentry Jessup Bixby, M. Alice Gentry Palmer Cramer, Francis A. Ross and John H. Ross. Joe is survived by countless adoring nieces and nephews.

Joseph was proud of his service in the US Navy upon the USS Estes during the Korean War. Joe served for several years and then continued in the Navy Reserve. His family was proud of his lifelong example of patriotism and devotion to and love of country. This patriotism was evidenced by his daily wearing of many of his Navy hats, his VFW caps, numerous pins, awards and other honors.

Joe was very active in many volunteer activities and causes during retirement, receiving numerous recognition awards. His most rewarding service was to his beloved Veterans Associations in California and Utah.

Joe wasn’t only a hero for his service to his country, but he is regarded as a hero by family and friends alike for his genuine non-judgmental love for his fellow beings! He was friend to all and always had a listening ear. His smile was both contagious and reassuring. He had the ability to light up a room with the warmth of his personality and his genuine concern and love. Joe will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched!

We wish to thank all of his friends, staff and volunteers at his beloved Senior Center. His countless hours there were very rewarding to him, as well as to those with whom he associated. We have to give a shout out to employees and friends at The SunTrapp. A huge thanks to the residents, management and the staff at The Point where he lived. We can’t thank the management enough for the many kindnesses shown to Uncle Joe, and Gimly his dog, and to his family as we assisted Uncle Joe. Thanks also to the staffs of Huntsman Cancer Institute, Veterans Hospital, Holladay Healthcare Center and to Canyon Hospice and the genuine love and kindness Kimmie showed to Joe and the family in his final days.

A Celebration of Life, in Joe’s style, as a Potluck lunch, will be held at the The SunTrapp, 102 S 600 W, Salt Lake City, UT 8410, on August 17, 2024 from 2-4pm.

Thanks Uncle Joe for the many great memories that you shared during our many outings, lunches and dinners. Joe’s keen mind never failed. Memories were shared right to the end. Connie and I will never forget the song Joe sang that he modified to sing at Myrtle and Lealand’s wedding in 1950. Uncle Joe sang with a band he was in at the time. He was 14 years old! He sang this to us A cappella 74 years later in perfect pitch outside in the beautiful courtyard setting of the Holladay Care facility. This whole experience will long be one of my most cherished memories with Uncle Joe. I’m pretty sure Connie feels the same.
