Joseph Charles Boynton passed away on January 28, 2021 having lived a life that blessed everyone who knew him. Charlie was born August 29, 1931 to George and Doris (Butler) Boynton in Bountiful, Utah.

After graduating from Jordan High School in 1949, Charlie enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. While on a ship leave, he returned home and married his eternal sweetheart Marjorie Hardcastle on April 9, 1951. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 9, 1953. He served on the transport ships- the Cape Esperance and the
Windham Bay during the Korean War.

Charlie and Marge moved to Sandy, Utah where they lived for forty-five years. Later they moved to St. George where they enjoyed 23 years of beautiful warm weather and extra golfing time.

After leaving the Navy, Charlie was hired by Mountain Fuel Supply Company in their radio department. He truly appreciated everyone he worked with and they became lifelong friends.
Charlie was always a dedicated, conscientious, dependable worker. He became head of the communications department at Questar. The President of the company would often call Charlie up and say, “Hey Kid I need you to do a job.” He was elected President of the Utilities and Telecommunications Council. He was offered a job at Motorola but stayed working for Mountain Fuel (eventually Questar) until his retirement.

Charlie’s part-time job at night was repairing televisions. He was kept really busy fixing televisions for friends and neighbors, and friends of friends and neighbors. Besides fixing televisions Charlie went about doing good in serving anyone who needed help or support. Neighbors would call him to fix anything that was broken, and if he couldn’t fix it, he knew a guy who could.

One of the greatest joys Charlie and Marge shared together was their family. They have three daughters, 13 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Dad was the best. All three of us girls were so blessed to have a dad that was our best friend. He would take us and our friends anywhere we wanted to go, get us anything we needed for any project, and always made it easy to talk to him. They were the greatest of grandparents and were always there to support and cheer-on every one of those grandchildren and great-grandchildren in anything they were doing.

Some of their favorite activities were traveling, golfing, camping, boating, skiing, working in the yard, and sharing time with many life-long friends. Charlie loved working in the yard and his home reflected his extra care. He delighted in the spring when his cactus would bloom with profuse blossoms.

Charlie and Marge also loved serving in the Jordan River and St. George Temples. Every Friday, for many years they would go with a group and do sealings in the St. George Temple. They served as Employment Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St. George.

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Cathy (Dennis) Smith, Mitzi (Ron) Attebury, Deanna (Paul) Brady; 13 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-granddaughter, and his brother Leo G. Boynton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, his parents, and his sister Marjean Kanady, and his great-granddaughter Danika Soto.

Due to Covid-19, a private funeral service for the immediate family will be held Friday, February 5, 2021, beginning at 11am. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

Guestbook/Condolences

We never knew when we built our little green house in St. George the blessing we were going to have in across the street neighbors of Marge and Charlie. They became instant and great friends. We hated to see Charlie move for his last few months but we kept in touch.
Charlie was always looking out for the neighborhood. He helped me plant a pomegranate bush and put in sprinklers. We got a few leaves but nothing like his bushels of fruit. He also had the most prolific cactus blossoms we've ever seen.

We loved taking Charlie to the movies with us and then hearing his stories after seeing "Midway". He also loved his rueben sandwiches from Firehouse Subs.

We miss both Marge and Charlie and think of them every time we round the corner on Hummingbird Dr. They were such a blessing to us and our family.

Some of my Favorite memories from childhood were Sunday nights dinners at Grandma's house. It was always more exciting when "Uncle Charlie" was coming. Sorry for your loss, but now he is reunited with his wife. I wish I could see you all. Love Larry and family.

Sorry to hear about Charlie. He was a very good friend. We had many hours on Lake Powell with him and his family. Working with him at mountain fuel was always fun.
Love to you Marge and family.

Charlie and Marjorie were much loved in our Paradise Canyon (StG) neighborhood. Such lovely, sweet neighbors and friends. Imagine my surprise when I learned that Charlie had moved into my new neighborhood in Washington, Utah after Marge passed away. I got to say hi to Charlie at Christmas and that was a treat for me. I'm glad they can be together again.

Charley was a wonderful neighbor and friend. If you ever needed any help with anything he was always willing to help or find out how to solve your problems. I always think about him as I drive past his former house in Paradise Canyon. I also have very fond memories of Marge and the fun lunches we had over the years. I miss them both.

So surprised and saddened to hear of Bro. Boynton's passing. With covid we have kind of lost touch with our ward! What a sweet and faithful man! We worked under his competent stewardship as greeters. We visited with him and Marge toward the end of her life. He cared for her with all his heart and physical ability as long as he could. He had invited us to see his cactus in bloom. We will miss him. Know his family will, too. Best wishes to all of his family.

We knew Charlie just a short time but it took no time at all for him to endear himself to us. We learned all we could about cactus, pomegranates and bougainvillea too...he was the master of those things in his yard. We learned how much he loved his family, enjoyed his neighbors and realized, truly, he never met a stranger!! It was an honor to know him, hear his stories, and have quick little visits these last few months. We want to extend our heartfelt condolences to you, his family. We think of him every day we drive up that driveway into the garage and walk in the house. It’s not quite our house yet....we still affectionately call it “Charlie’s house.”
