Directions to ServiceKaren Elaine Dahl Corey was born in 1941 in Salt Lake City to Ruth Banks Dahl and Ervin Nathaniel Dahl. She attended Highland High School and graduated from University of Utah, obtaining a degree in Elementary Education. While attending University of Utah she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and Angel Flight.
Karen married Paul Frank Corey on July 25, 1963, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 30, 1964. They are parents of 6 children,12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren, with the most recent grandchild arriving 4 weeks ago much to her delight. Karen loved her family and loved being with them. She hosted large Sunday dinners every week and always made each child and grandchild’s requested dinner for their birthday celebration.
Karen loved kids so much that she dedicated her career to working with them. She taught 2nd grade, Kindergarten, and spent the last many years of her career focusing on teaching special needs children.
Karen also loved music and was a phenomenal pianist. She taught piano lessons to what seemed like the entire neighborhood of kids, as well as every one of her own kids. She hummed all day as she went about her daily business and was always full of joy.
Karen actively participated in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, continuing her love of music by serving as the Primary Chorister and Pianist, Relief Society Chorister, and Ward Chorister for many years. She also served as Primary President, Den Mother, various Relief Society and Young Women’s callings, and as a supportive Bishop’s Wife.
She is dearly loved by her family and is one of the strongest and most caring people we know.
Karen is survived by her children Kristin (Scott) Lieber, Dick (Heidi), Steve (Beth), Daniel, Darren (Madelyn), and Greg (Brooke). She is preceded in death by her husband, mother, and father.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
