Karen Lee Sagendorf Moore, Born October 23, 1953, passed away January 15, 2022

Karen married Steven Moore March 30th, 1974, in Salt Lake City. They lived in the same home for 45 years.

Karen was known for her smile, sweet caring personality, and positive attitude. She battled her cancer with grace and dignity to the end. Her faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection in a restored earthly paradise, buoyed her in her final days. She was able to share her hope with all her family members and close friends during her last week.

After graduating from Granite High School in 1972, she was able to serve as a full-time minister as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for three years until the birth of her first child Andrea. She raised her three children as a stay-at-home mom. It wasn’t until they were older that she started working for H&R Block. She worked for them for 30 tax seasons. She was an excellent tax preparer and instructed many tax classes. In 2005 she achieved the status of becoming an Enrolled Agent, a credential issued by the I.R.S. Her last tax season was 2019. She retired due to complications caused by M.S.

She enjoyed the outdoors. She learned to hunt big game and was successful in taking deer, elk, and antelope. She was an excellent marksman. She didn’t care to fish but enjoyed being on the boat with family and friends. She loved floating the Green River below Flaming Gorge dam. It was an annual event with family for many years. She never tired of watching wildlife. Taking a short drive to sit and watch some of the local big game animals gave her great pleasure. She also loved desert landscapes. Death Valley and the landscapes around Moab were among her favorites. Her favorite vista was an overlook on the way to the Bookcliffs. It is on a cliff overlooking rolling badlands, with a green valley and a small ranch at the bottom. She never tired of the view.

She also enjoyed sewing and knitting. As a young housewife she sewed clothes for herself and family. One of Steve’s most cherished possessions is a knitted sweater that took a couple of years to complete. She had the privilege a couple of time of sewing costumes for bible-based dramas during summer District Conventions for Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was always ready to share her craft skills with others.

Her life centered around her worship as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She stayed active in the preaching work and rarely missed a meeting. For several years she provided transportation to a group of her friends engaged in the preaching work every Friday afternoon. Although that activity ended in September of 2019 when she started her battle with cancer, she was able to continue her preaching by writing letters.

Proceeded in death by her parents Richard and Virginia Sagendorf, brother Lynn Sagendorf and sister Mary Sagendorf Verde.

Survived by husband Steven Moore, daughter Andrea Lopez (husband Malcom), sons Michael and Geoffery (wife Sherrie). Also, by her grandchildren, Anthony, Sierra, Jonathan, Tarryn, Shy-Ann and Kaiden.

She is also survived by her sisters Diane Sagendorf and Sue Urban (husband Mike), and by her brothers Wayne (wife Margie) and Mark (wife Holly). Along with 19 nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Theresa Werner and her team for the care they provided, and requests donations in Karen’s memory be made to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, 500 Huntsman Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108. Please indicate on the memo section of the check that the gift is “in memory of Karen Moore.” Online memorial gifts may also be made at https://donate.huntsmancancer.org (please note that the gift is in memory of Karen Moore).

A memorial service via Zoom is scheduled for Saturday January 22, 2022, at 1:30 pm

Steve,

I was so sad to hear of Karen’s passing. Just wanted to let you know you are in my thoughts and prayers. One thing I will always remember is that you prioritized your marriage…..taking time during the crazy tax season to get away with your sweetheart! You two were such a good example that way!

Love,
