Funeral Service

Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City, Utah

Saturday Feb 1, 2025 12:00 PM

Karen R. Mayne passed away January 22, 2025 right where she wanted to- in the house she and her late husband spent so many years making a home.

Karen was born on March 12, 1944 in Salt Lake City to Armond James and Gladys Conover West. She graduated from South High School in 1962. While in high school, she met Ken Mayne, whom she would marry on July 19, 1963. Soon after, they settled in Cottonwood Heights where they raised their 4 children.

Karen always had an eye for beauty. As a young woman she attended cosmetology school. She always looked polished with her hair, makeup, and nails impeccably done. She owned a salon in her home and spent many hours giving her children, grandkids, and clients countless haircuts, styles, and perms.

A talented cook, seamstress, and gardener, Karen was always working on a project to give to someone in her family. Later in life, she found joy in doing genealogy and spent many hours searching through records, sorting photos, and telling stories of family members who had passed on.

Karen is survived by her children, Laurie Wagner (Dan), Kenneth Jr (Karen), and Melissa Archibald (Doug); her sister Jan Helm (Chuck); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Kenneth “Ken” Mayne, son Douglas Mayne, brothers James and Robert West, and grandson Taylor Archibald.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 1, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City. Friends and family may visit at a viewing prior to the funeral service from 10:30 to 11:45 AM in the same location. Internment will immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.

Laurie, Melissa, Kenny and each of the extended family --
The love, admiration, and devotion Karen felt for you -- and that you demonstrated in return -- inspired everyone lucky enough to witness it. Vivid memories of your mom's lifetime of nurturing, creativity, determination, and dedication will, I hope, help fill the void created by her physical absence. Sending love.
