Karin Leni Angelika Kremulat Bryner (86) Born May 8, 1938 Koenigsberg, East Prussia, Germany and peacefully passed away on the evening of December 24, 2024 in Salt Lake City Utah. She had a stroke on Sunday morning December 22. She was preparing her home for a day of celebration: wrapping presents, preparing food, and getting ready to lead the music at church. This exemplifies the life of Karin, our Dear Mom, sister, and friend. Her life is a life of deep faith, service, and devotion.
She loved Christmas Eve. How fitting to return to the loving arms of our Savior on the holiest of nights. What a joyful reunion with her husband Lowell and family whom she missed so much. She has a great testimony of the restored gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Karin was born in Koenigsberg, East Prussia, Germany. The “old” country that no longer exists as a result of World War II. Her childhood was filled with hardship. The last time she saw her father was when she was 3 ½ years old. Her dear mother Luise Kremulat, her sister Helga, her aunt Edith, and her cousin Vera forged their way struggling to find safety and food. Eventually they were united in Westfalen, Germany with her Oma Schipporeit. As refugees, they were taken in by a farmer’s wife in the small village of Moellbergen. There was joy found in this village. Along with her sister Helga, she learned to complete chores on the farm, herd the cattle, be with the animals, work in the vegetable garden, and play in the forest. Eventually they were able to obtain a small studio apartment in Minden sharing their resources.
She left Germany, along with her sister, when she was 18 years old and arrived in America on December 7, 1956. She received her citizenship and proudly stated she is an American. She loved having as many flags as possible, quite possibly more than anyone, and proudly displayed her flags and US collectibles.
She enjoyed the opportunities of being in the Salt Lake Valley: taking classes at LDS Business College, attending organ recitals, church sermons, and serving others in her community. She particularly enjoyed helping and serving the Wood family with household chores and taking care of the children in this family. She worked at Hiller Bookbinding Company in Salt Lake City for a time.
Karin married Lowell LaVoy Bryner on March 18, 1963 in the Logan Utah Temple. Lowell had learned German on his mission to, Austria and he wanted to keep his German language skills. He was enchanted by Karin. Together they started their life of faith, dedication to the gospel, and service. Karin served in various organizations including the Primary, Sunday School, and most recently as Music Leader for Sacrament meeting.
Along with her husband Lowell, she volunteered for 20 seasons at This is the Place Heritage Park. They served in the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples completing an ordinance assignment for sealings. Together they enjoyed attending symposiums and church history lectures.
Karin also worked for the Salt Lake County Auditor’s office as the Office Manager/Receptionist. After Lowell retired, she began full-time office work. She retired at age 84 after 29 years and 3 years of full time seasonal work. Karin was always saying “Work is A Blessing” She enjoyed her association with friends and colleagues at the Auditor’s Office.
Karin is known for her caring, compassion, creativity, humor, and joy for life! She has spirit! She shared her resources with others. She always shared a meal, poem, and wisdom. She was confident in her abilities and often “figured things out” to make her own pattern for sewing clothes and costumes, creating meals without a recipe, and craft projects. She loved caring for her family and home. She loved to do things well and often had elaborate displays and celebrations.
She found joy in the small details of life. She loved caring for her “plot of land”. She served selflessly and knew she would “work til the end”
Our dear faithful, loving Mom! We love you!
Karin is survived by her children Sylvia (Scott) Gines, Thomas (Tamara) Bryner, Christine Anderson, Barbara (David) Gill, Michael (Stephanie) Bryner, 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, her sister Helga, cousin Vera, nieces, and nephews.

To all of the children and grandchildren of Karin Bryner:
We love your mother. Karin has always chosen kindness and was exemplary in so many ways. She chose the good and beautiful things in life. She has sacrificed for her children and worked hard. Her testimony
of the Savior was never a secret. We love all of you. We wish we could be there with you. Thank you for making the Zoom link available.
Cliff and Susan Bryner.
Beautiful service. I'm sure that Karin was pleased with everyones participation.
Karin & your family are special to me as we were friends, & I enjoyed being her kids church teacher. She told me some of her hardships as a child & agreed to share them with my Sunday School class to help them appreciate the war hardships & how important freedom is to their lives even though it was difficult for her to share the memories. I was so impressed with her experiences & admire her. I wanted to attend today but had a medical situation, so I only got to hear the last talk. I have the website & ID# but need the passcode to zoom the entire funeral. My # is 385-290-9808 or my email is cherrycreekid@comcast.net.
My deepest condolances to her family and friends.
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Karin. She was a wonderful loving woman. A quick story about Karin was when I was giving birth to my fifth child. Duane was taking care of our four boys all under the age of seven. Karin came to the house to help out and straighten up before I came home from the hospital. I was so surprised to come home to a clean home and every little boys shoes were perfectly lined up in a row in the closet. So thankful to have known Karin.
i miss you grandma
Grandma Karin was an incredible example to her grandchildren. Jonathan talked about her often at school, and how much he loved his time at her house. She'll be missed, but the memories she made will last forever.

It was a beautiful service honoring her, and I could feel the love and the respect that everyone has for her. I worked with Karin and found her to be one of the most amazing women I have ever met. So brave and grateful for all she had endured and overcome. So proud to be an American citizen and showed me her photo. She was always so kind, caring and genuine. I told her one day, that I feel she represents Christ's love more than anyone I have ever met. I truly appreciated her and feel very blessed to have known her.
